Don't give up hope yet. Maybe year 2025 or 26 for Jr! Then you will reap the beneifits of having a son playing Highlands football. What Championship will that be by then? #24 or 25!(An average title of 3 years of course)

I was just giving a possible reason for the Bulldog (Reddog) to be on the ring. Your right, the 1982 Defense was terrific. The Dirty Dozen is a great description.:thumb:

I know this was previously answered but I would like all to be perfectly clear: Santa Claus is paying 100% for the rings! I had three boys on the 2004 team. Yep! Three rings from good 'ole St. Nick!

 

Secondly, the tradtion is that the seniors on the championship teams design the rings. If you are an underclassman on the state team, I would imagine you would not want to deviate from the seniors! That would be nerd like!

 

My boys would wear the rings to school dances and to Cov Cath football and basketball games. Other than that... they are put into a box for the next event.

Well the phrase Red Dog dates back to when Coach Red Dog Doughtery(SP) coached at Highlands starting in 1987. It is something that Dale has been hanging on to since coach passed away in 1996. No disrespect intended to such a great man but i highly doubt any of these kids seriously know who he even was. I guess whatever works is fine with me!!!!! Played for Coach Daughtery, when he was the coach at Lloyd. Great coach and motivator. Never had to worry about getting pumped for a game with him in the locker room. I remember, he took on the whole offensive line, to prove to them they had to stay on their blocks and that was when we played Holmes (81-84).

I do think that Dale and Brian keep the memories and spirit of RedDog fresh in the minds of the current players. They may not have known him, but they do know what he was all about. And while I never played for him, I got to know him pretty well when he coached at Highlands. Just an all around great gentleman. Sort of grandfatherly like in some ways; but in other ways, as an intense of a coach as you'll want to find.

Oh quit whining. You sound like some old wash woman.:laugh: They could put a Colonel on the ring and I wouldn't care. We won state. Let me repeat that...we won state. That's what matters, not what's on a ring that most kids will wear for about a month (at most), throw in a box and then take off and only occassionally wear it when they want to rub salt in someone else's wound (read, CovCath. I know Wil Geisen gets a kick bringing his out everynow and then to get my older son's goat). Personally, I think the whole ring thing is a bit overhyped anyway (Great marketing by the ring manufacturers I'll admit though and good for the economy I guess). You didn't get one did you? I didn't. And I have just as much pride in my state title as the kids do that get the rings. To me, they are pretty much meaningless. There only significance is that it indicates you won state. A key fob could do the same (heck you use the key fob more and it would cost a lot less. Parents of the world unite: lets get rid of the ring thing, go with key fobs and take the savings and invest them in the stock market!)
