Tubby Smith turned the winningest team in NCAA history into a mid-major team. That's all that needs to be said.

Am I mistaken or are they still the winningest team? If he were so bad then someone would have passed us right?

Excellent post, UKCATS, and I couldn't agree more. I have been making that comparison to a lot of people. I love how the very same people that would live and die by "Tubby won with Rick's players" are the very ones that do not want to give Billy time to get his own players.

Its the kind of fans that are calling for BCG's head that make people like Dick Vitale loathe UK fans and for sports enthusiasts to put us in the same bracket with Yankee fans as the craziest and most overly demanding fans in sport.

:ylsuper::thumb::ylsuper: Exactly!! It's the UNREALISTIC critical fanatics that give the rest of us UK fans a bad reputation. I wish these people would realize that all they are doing is hurting the program. I'm sure recruits hear and see these people's comments on radio shows and websites. A recruit may see these things and decide to go elsewhere because of the unrealistic demand of the UK critics and their reputation as being fanatical.

We're just lucky that Pitino put us so far ahead. The problem is that each season UNC is going 32-4 and UK is going 22-13.

How??? Did you not watch UK those years when he won 32 games, and 28? I know the last two were not that great, but come on...

I'd take it right now...

What will you say if BCG takes a "mid-major" team and turns it into a pitifully, embarrasing train wreck?

I guess Adolph did too as he had a run of seaons in the early 60's and towards the end of his coaching career that were similar to Tubby's last two seasons. In fact, some were BELOW Tubby's standard as he went .500 the year AFTER Texas Western.

Your claim holds water for Adolph if it holds water for Tubby.

Sorry, MO, I tried but your side of the argument just won't let it drop.

My records show that UK held a 1685-1677 lead when Tubby took over. By the time he left it was 1948-1916. But hey, who needs facts when you have an opinion right?

Ok, let's just look at the facts and no opinions. Here are the 1990s:

22-6

29-7

30-4

27-7

28-5

34-2

35-5

35-4

22-13

22-12

4-5

204-75

Do you see a trend? How about the fact that we've has more losses in 7 seasons than we did the entire decade of the 90s? How about 5 10-loss seasons out of 7?:thumb:

The important facts are in post #53.

Just to dot the i's because I am concerned that some cannot recognize the i let alone dot it.:D

When Tubby was hired, UK had a 8 victory lead.

When Tubby left, UK had a 32 victory lead.

If Tubby took the greatest program in history to a mid-major level, I guess UNC went to the Gardner Webb level.;):p

Okay just facts. UK has only had two 3-4 year runs in their 70 year history like they did in 96-98. If you take any time period besides 47-51 and compare it to the 96-98 run, it will pale in comparison.

You are taking a magical 3-year run and using it like it is a normal UK thing. IT IS NOT.

Who did UK lose to in the tourney the year that Tubby was 32-4?

90's UK won 81% of their games

2000's UK won 73% of their games

Rupp in the 60's went 197 and 69 to win 74% of their game.

Rupps last decade seems very similar to Tubby's tenure at UK.

While Rupps first 10-15 years is the part that seems similar to Rick.
