Lieberman: McCain can reunite our country

The surprise would have been if he did NOT endorse McCain.

They deserve one another. Both are about as exciting as a potted plant. Doesn't matter, McCain is done.

I know there are a lot of GOP people that don't like McCain. There are a lot of Dems that dislike Lieberman.

 

But they have both given a lot to this country and I don't know what it says when good politicians can't be supported because they don't have a lot of "pinosh."

I think McCain is my favorite candidate at this point.

Maybe it was better representing the views of his constituents where the Dems wanted him to simply side with them?

Other than the war I can't think of another issue he is in line with the Republicans on. Seems like I saw somwhere that he's in line with the Dems something like 94%.

I find it surprising that Lieberman chose to publicly endorse McCain. Lieberman is already estranged from the Democratic Party and this endorsement will not serve to bring him back into the Democratic Party main stream which is extremely anti-war and he differs with Republicans on nearly every other issue so he doesn't really have a home in the Republican Party either. As a pro-war Democrat he is a party of one.

 

Also, by endorsing McCain he only raises the ire of many Democrats who already despise him. While Lieberman may find McCain to be the best choice regardless of party, I really don't see what he gains by endorsing McCain. He could have just remained silent and saved himself alot of trouble. I also don't believe that a Lieberman endorsement of McCain will hold sway with Republican voters so a cost benefit analysis would dictate not making the endorsement.

With all you say being true, I guess we should be impressed with his conviction to his beliefs.

Both McCain and Leiberman have been committed public servants. Neither deserve excoriation. I totally disagree with McCain on several issues very important to me and therefore will not vote for him, but he has never delivered his views in such a manner as to cause me to show rancor. All in all, having a few more guys like these in Congress would not be bad for our country.

 

Lieberman reminds me of the old cartoon character "Droopy."

Conviction would be my number one guess. I suppose it could also be the result of personal friendship since they both have worked in the Senate for a number of years. I really don't know.

McCain seems to be picking up a little momentum with recent endorsements in Iowa and New Hampshire.

I haven't heard that term since John Dean's attorney said it to the Watergate Committee during their questioning of Dean. He said something to the effect of, "What am I here, a potted plant?", when they told him to allow Dean to answer one of their questions, this after the attorney intervened on a question.
