Central's road to glory a long one

 

From "sacrificial lambs" to state champions.

Such is the story of Central High School, which won its first Kentucky High School Athletic Association football championship this season after 52 years of trying.

 

 

The Courier ran a great story today about the Central Yellowjackets. Thought I'd share....

Would love to read the story, but it just isn't coming up for me. I'm happy as a lark for Central. Truely glad that Highlands isn't 3A.

Thanks, I got it and what an awsome article. The only part I disagree with is the pitifull weight room. Highlands weight room is absolutly the pits, but the kids show up, workout in a room with no AC, no venelation, and no working water fountains, yet they gut it out and want to keep going back because they know that that is a crucial step in becoming State Champs. Facilities don't make the Champion, the spirit within does.

Will everybody still love Central after they start consistently kicking their tails?

I agree, but it still helps to have a great coaching staff!!!!

Not in the same class as the Rocks, so I don't need to worry about it. Meaning I will still love them. About time another team from Louisville steps up in a class other than 6A. :banana:

I'll respect them even more if and when that day comes and it may come next year with the 3 D1 prospects they have coming back.

Hold on....should everyone expect Central to be back every year. Maybe they will...but building a program is much more than one season.

 

Granted, they are now headed in the right direction, but to repeat and play high quality football year in and year out takes a lot of commitment top to bottom.

 

We will see soon enough.

Essentially all of Central's skill guiys were Seniors this past season. I get the feeling they will be able to fill those positions with talented/athletic players, but experience may come into play during their title defense run.

Read the article. They've been building to this for a lot more than one year. Back in the day they were a force to be dealt with. They're not a flash in the pan by any stretch of the imagination.

They do have 3 D1 prospects returning next year and I think they are all on defense if I remember properly. If they are going to drop off due to a lack of program, I don't think its going to be next year. And as BirdieCat pointed out, Central didn't really come out of no where this year. They gave last year's AAA runner up all that BG wanted in the semi's. Highlands played them 4,5 (?) years ago and they were pretty talented back then also.
