December 16, 200718 yr The ball to Chad Johnson is obviously incomplete in the end zone. After a TV time out I had to question what Marvin was thinking when he threw the challenge flag and basically wasted a timeout, what do you all say? A. I wonder how far I can throw this red thing? B. Wonder if they have recieved my application at Michigan yet? C. Maybe they changed the rule since the last game. D. I bet the ref will overrule this, I have such a good track record of challenges....psych E. I'll throw this flag and maybe get a better draft pick for next year. Between the Bengals and Kentucky these guys are driving me CRAZY!!!:jump:
December 16, 200718 yr Not only that call, but we should at least thank the SF player for getting injured late. He was going to punt on 4th and 5 with 3:00 to go and down 7. The defense proved during the 2nd half that they couldn't stop them.
December 16, 200718 yr Lewis has demonstrated all year he has no clue when it comes to on field game decisions. Has has made mistakes over and over again. He is not a Head Coach. Needs to go back in the the booth and put the D coordinator head set back on.
December 16, 200718 yr Who cares, I mean you at least have to try and challenge it. If its a TD then you are back in the game. If it stays they way its called then you lose. So you gotta take a shot.
December 16, 200718 yr F. Doesn't matter stop Frank Gore on a 9 yard draw and we have the ball back. With a timeout left. I'd say that would matter.
December 16, 200718 yr With a timeout left. I'd say that would matter. Still had a chance to get the ball back. I think thats why Marvin challenged it cause he knows how bad our run D is. Didn't Gore have a season high today? Go figure.
December 16, 200718 yr With a timeout left. I'd say that would matter. It might but its not like Palmer had the O insink tonight. The O was just plain bad tonight. :madman:
December 16, 200718 yr Author The Bengals didn't stop Gore and it turned out not to matter, but imagine if they had actually stop Gore on a draw play. They get the ball without any timeouts instead of one. That could have been huge. If's or buts was candy and nuts. Merry Christmas.
December 16, 200718 yr It might but its not like Palmer had the O insink tonight. The O was just plain bad tonight. :madman: The D blew also. Look at the 3rd quarter, with 44 secs left the O had 3 snaps. The Niners dominated the Gals D. Like I said the whole team just mailed it in. Inexcusable and lays at the HC's feet.
December 16, 200718 yr Marvin has got to go. This teams looks out of sync and completely undisciplined!!!! I can't stand to watch him on the sidelines.

December 16, 200718 yr Still had a chance to get the ball back. I think thats why Marvin challenged it cause he knows how bad our run D is. Didn't Gore have a season high today? Go figure. Well, since Gore is on my fantasy team and I was eliminated last week, I figured he would have the game of his season...

When it was obviously incomplete? No, you don't have to challenge it. I think there's a chance that if the Bengals had had one timeout left they might still have forced the Niners to run a few plays after that first down rather than take a knee. They might have gotten the ball back with a few seconds left, but still, it's a chance. Where the decision to waste that timeout would've really come into play was if Cincinnati had stopped the Niners and forced them to punt on that last posession. The difference between getting the ball with 1:50 left and 70 yards to go with one timeout or no timeouts can be huge. Bottom line, it was a stupid gamble on a play that it was very evident what the outcome was.
