Why Jesus would not vote for Barack Obama

Featured Replies

Not much of one. It makes it seem as though He would be more likely to vote for someone else...and who would that be? Candidates that support the death penalty? Those that promote staying in a war?

OOOOH excellent - can I add . . .

those who treat immigrants (legal or illegal poorly) - we are admonished to be kind to aliens b/c the hebrews were once strangers in a strange land.

We are admonsished to visit and take care of those in prison - not kill them (as you already point out)

We are admonished to love our enemies and bless those who persecute us

Would Jesus vote for someone who wants to deny access to healthcare/insurance because they can't afford it.

Remove the religion portion of Karl Marx's work and Jesus is striding pretty far to left . . .

"Sell everything you have and give your money to the poor . . ." Not a lot of capitalism in that statement

I guess Jesus would vote for Kucinich then;)

What you say is correct, but Jesus also had a balance,

Mark 6:11

11And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave, as a testimony against them."

Remember also, he turned the tables over in the temple and chased the money changers out with a whip.

Were there times that Jesus said be done with people and move on?

I just don't see the correlation between your "examples" and what acemona was saying.

Ace always gives examples of how Jesus accepted, accepted, accepted people. Giving the impression that Jesus ONLY and ALWAYS accepted people. But there were times that Jesus said ENOUGH and I will NOT ACCEPT what the people WERE DOING.

That is my point in the balance. Yeah, I agree with ace that Jesus told us to do the things that he listed but also, Jesus indicated that there are times we are to shake off the dust of people and move on. Jesus indicated there are times to drive 'moneychangers from the temple.'

Jesus was not the meek, liberal, wimpy, Mr. Rogers type that he is made out to be. He was compassionate and strong. He was sympathetic and firm. He was a balance of the two. He was a PERFECT COMBINATION.

Like my wife thinks of me.;):D:sssh::lol: My side hurts from laughing at that last one.:irked:

I didn't see Ace's post that way. He was pointing out logical illustrations of Jesus' teaching and what Jesus would or wouldn't be for.

He used specifics that neither the Temple Clearing incident or the disciple sending instructions seemed to be relevant to. In fact the two you cited were more aimed at the Religious leaders who were:

1) exploiting the temple exchange system and cluttering the worship area of women and Gentiles in the temple with a money making venture.

2) rejecting the teaching and presence of Christ because they wanted nothing to do with God's message for everyone.

It was more of a posts to ace's posts in general rather than that one post. He does a great job being a BGP conscious on how we should treat others. I was just pointing out that even Jesus had an ending point with people's actions.

On Ace's points, I agreed with all that he said on what we should do.

Interested in where you gathered that point?

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve

Then Jesus went around teaching from village to village. 7Calling the Twelve to him, he sent them out two by two and gave them authority over evil spirits.

8These were his instructions: "Take nothing for the journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in your belts. 9Wear sandals but not an extra tunic. 10Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you leave that town. 11And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave, as a testimony against them."

12They went out and preached that people should repent. 13They drove out many demons and anointed many sick people with oil and healed them.

Wouldn't it be great if I could act like I type?

Me, too.

I feel like Paul too often. I know what I am supposed to do but why don't I do it.

Very frustrating.

As for Jesus telling people to sell everything they had and give the money to the poor, how does that gjve with the teaching in the Bible somewhere where the son that did nothing with what his father gave him was negatively compared with the other son that took what his father gave him and increased it. LBBC help me out on this one.

It is about using what God gives you (spiritual gifts) - it is not about the accumulation of wealth.

The main reason Jesus wouldn't vote for Barack is he's an Israeli citizen and couldn't register to vote in the United States. Unless he registered Democrat. ;)
