The AP guys are going over highlight film after highlight film and thats takes a long time. Once they have done that they will look at the top 5 and go over them agin to get the best quality player for Mr. Football. Now if you beleive one word that I just said you really beleive in the tooth fairy. If I were on the KHSAA board of directors I would be on the AP guys like flys on dirty shoes.

Some will say that the award does not have any bearing on one's college prospects... but I will differ on that one. Being able to add MR KENTUCKY FOOTBALL to one's resume is HUGE!

 

 

Hopefully, next year the AP will get the awards out to the athletes sooner. It is such a prestigous honor. It does mean a lot to the winner ~ above and beyond the recognition he receives from the media.

It's a great honor, but I seriously doubt that a school's decision whether or not to offer a scholarship to a player hinges on whether or not he wins the award.

Coaches don't read resumes or sift through press clippings. They look at game film, they talk to other coaches and they talk to the coaches who have to oppose the recruit they are looking at. Most college football coaches already have their wish list for the next three signing days well in hand already. A December or January award announcement won't affect a recruitment process that started three years ago and has been intensifying for the past 18 months.

Hopefully next year the AP will get the ballots out to the voters sooner. There's no excuse for being this late, especially when the nominating process for both All-State and Mr. Football used to get rolling in mid-November.

Jeep, if you were on the KHSAA Board of Directors, you'd know that the KHSAA has zero to do with Mr. Football, or the AP all state team, the BGP all state team or the Coaches all state team either.

I know and I should not get so down on the AP guys. They do a great job day in and day out. I just wish they would care more about these awards that the kids so charish.

I think that if you are selected as THE best footballer in the state of Kentucky, Ohio or Alaska for that matter... your stock just went up tenfold in the D-1 recruiting process. I would think it to be a positive for the college to boast they just recruited MR Kentucky Football. It certainly could do no harm to the awardee towards his recruiting process. IMO.. the excitement is waning each day and week post the championship games. It's anti-climatic at this point to what has been a very exciting season in Kentucky. Why not make the AP MR FOOTBALL and AP All- State announcement right after the 6A championship game?

I agree with you if Corey Robinson or Corey Farris gets the coveted recognition as their name has been out there... but if a less recongized athlete earns the award, I still think that will be nothing but a positive in getting more attention from a D-1 school.

Will Stein is the quarterback for a state championship team and plays in one of the highest-profile programs in this part of the country. He's already a known commodity on the recruiting circuit. Whether or not he wins one more award isn't going to matter to college coaching staffs whose job is to bring the best talent available to their schools.
