The only way to know is by contacting every AP outlet and ask them for whom they voted ... I don't think the AP releases the vote count.

 

I believe last year, the State-Journal reported that Nick Petrino was the third-most vote getter behind Kaelin Ammons (2nd) and Douglas Beaumont (1st).

The AP might release that information in the Mr. Football story. I plead ignorance on that.

The final year that I voted, the AP brought in some of the state's "top" high school sports writers as a committee to sift through nominations come up with the final Mr. Football ballot and take some pressure off the sports desk at the AP-Louisville bureau. I wasn't really impressed with how they did it. Then again, I wasn't really impressed with how they started doing a lot of things at AP Louisville that year. For a non-profit allegedly owned by its member news organizations, that group of personnel didn't seem too interested in helping its membership out.

 

 

 

The first 10 years or so of the Mr. Football award, a group of sports editors met every year and picked the five finalists. It worked a lot better then, and we always had the winner announced much earlier than this year. The all-state teams were always announced just before the state finals. It's ridiculous that it takes so long now.
