I think that BC is overrated. We had a very poor night shooting the ball. We should of won by alot more of a margin than we did.

 

Another way to look at it is that you got out rebounded by a ton and should have lost.

Great win for my Tomcats! I think Bonner got a little excited with the crowd but couldn't really see because of young people standing up in front of me.

I thought the officiating was consistent. Consistenly poor. Ashland is the only team that gets hammered at HOME.

I'm not here to defend officiating one way or the other, but you bring up a theme I've heard over and over in this region. In fact, I heard a certain radio broadcaster make a statement during the Ashland/BC game last night complaining about the bad calls he felt were being made and he concluded it with, "...and we're at home" as if that should actually factor into an official's decision making process. He even went on to comment about how BC coach Zornes was able to hire refs for his games while coaching at Ironton, as if that were preferable to the supposedly neutral assigning secretary system we have in Kentucky.

 

I always thought a home court advantage had more to do with playing in familiar surroundings, with a bigger home crowd cheering, maybe a pep band and big student section, a short drive to the home gym instead of a bus ride wherever. I never would have guessed that it meant that the officiating should also favor the home team.

 

Call me Pollyanna, but I'd settle for a fairly called game anytime, anywhere... home or away. I would think that's what the refs should attempt to deliver, regardless of the gym they're blowing (or not blowing) their whistle in.

 

What am I missing here?

 

As far as the assigning secretary is concerned, he is a former Ashland grad, and a standout for the Tomcats in his own right. He worked his way up to officiating at the D1 level, and is one of the most upstanding individuals I know. The fact that this game was not unfairly slanted in favor of the home team tells me he is apparently doing his job as it should be done. :thumb:

Those that have donned the ultimate maroon and white and have played basketball for the Tomcats will understand what I am saying. I agree with most of what you have said but most teams get the benefit of the doubt while playing at home, maybe the deep rooted hatred for the winningest sports program in the state obscures the ability to adjust the focus of the vision of the stripes.

I'm not going to get on here and complain about not getting calls at home. I'm going to complain about 50, count'em, 50 personnel fouls called in the Ashland/Boyd Co. game last night. It was hard for either team to find their rhythm last night. The 16th region officials need to realize that most people didn't come to watch them, but to watch the kids play. I believe that is one of the reasons that the 16th doesn't do well when they play out of our region. Most of the Lexington-Louisville-Northern KY officials let you play. They don't call all of the little ticky-tack fouls that are called in the 16th region. JMHO.

Well I believe my friend that Coach Biggs knew coming into the season that we were small and needed to shoot the ball well because our size limits the way we rebound. I dont think anyone at the game thinks that we should have lost, we should of won by more, IMO.

I believe he was trying to get the student section of AShland more fired up but the official thought he was taunting a BC player.

Plus, I dont get where everyone keeps saying that Boyd is overrated. They are rated at 6th. It is not like everyone has them at 2 or 3.

 

Dont know why fans in the 16th Region cannot just say we won, and good game by both teams. Never seen so many fans that want to complain about winning.

 

BTW...the 16th Region isnt rated by BCS standards, it doesnt matter how much you win by. A win is a win. If you are trying to win by the same margin as teams like Elliott County, then you best start practicing more.

 

OK, we won. I believe some people on here thought that BC was going to win and have talked about how Zornes was the deciding factor. So, IMO, he was outcoached because BC had the size, experience and probably more talented players but still couldnt win.
