Anyone who ever donned the glorious maroon and white, and busted their tail to develop their mind, body and competitive skills to notch each and every precious victory that has added to the Ashland tradition would find their accomplishments, sacrifice and contributions irreparably cheapened by allegations of "home-cooking" of any kind.

 

It’s bad enough when a school’s detractors do it. It is beyond comprehension why a school’s boosters would do it.

 

You and others forward “the deep rooted hatred for the winningest sports program in the state” as an explanation for the persecution the program must endure. I would suggest it has far less to do with others jealousy over eight decades of achievement than it does with the chest thumping, back slapping and crowing that goes on today when things are good, and the unbelievable whining that goes on when things don’t work out.

 

That is not how “the winningest sports program in the state” got to be ”the winningest sports program in the state.”

 

I can assure you it is not how to keep that tradition alive and growing.

It might also help if you truly "knew" who you are conversing with "pretend" old man. (You may know my identity, you don't know me or my story.)

 

I say "pretend" because I genuinely cannot believe that anyone who actually participated in building the Tomcat Tradition would be so condescending and disrespectful to Ashland's opponents. This attitude is truly embarassing to anyone who ever did anything in the gym or on the field to "earn" even one victory.

 

You're entitled to your opinion, and I can see it is pointless to try to persuade you. My opinion is that it is posts like the one quoted above that fuel anti-Ashland sentiments FAR MORE than any legitimately earned achievement, by any Tomcat athlete(s) in the history of the program.

I'm not going to get on here and complain about not getting calls at home. I'm going to complain about 50, count'em, 50 personnel fouls called in the Ashland/Boyd Co. game last night. It was hard for either team to find their rhythm last night. The 16th region officials need to realize that most people didn't come to watch them, but to watch the kids play. I believe that is one of the reasons that the 16th doesn't do well when they play out of our region. Most of the Lexington-Louisville-Northern KY officials let you play. They don't call all of the little ticky-tack fouls that are called in the 16th region. JMHO.

 

 

50 fouls, WOW! I didn't have the honor to watch the most historical program in the history of high school sports take on Boyd Co because contrary to popular and arrogant belief there is no coverage here in the sunshine state. Therefore, I was unaware of how many total fouls were call. That is way, way too many. Let the kids play.

 

Let's just hope that Ashland can go back to winning 25 games a year real soon or Biggs will be moving on to another job sooner than expected. FWIW, nobody who played for Ashland back in the day would make comments like the one's in this thread. Trust me I know those most of those guys and not a one of them are this lacking in the IQ department. Please show more respect for those of the era. They understood tradition afterall, they are the reason the current fan base at Ashland can beat their chests, trust me it has nothing to do with anything that has happened in the past 10 years.

Well if you plan on shooting well enough to consistently overcome getting out rebounded by around 20 then your in for a long season. I bet that the Boyd Co. people feel like that if they didn't turn it over 21 times they would have won.

 

My point is that Boyd isn't very good and Ashland struggled to beat them at home. IMO both are overrated and time will prove that.

Not too sure about your statements here...Plus if you feel so strongly about your team, dont you think you can beat some Juniors from Elliott County...I have my opinion, just wanted to know yours. Plus that deep dark tradition at Ashland teach you to already give up on a game you havent even played yet??

I will have to agree with you on this one. They are as good as most of the teams, but tradition doesnt mean anyone is going to lay down for them.

I think time will prove it all for ALL 16th Region teams....Looking forward to the outcome. :thumb: I believe we will all see some surprises. The only that wont be a surprise will probably be Elliott County, because I believe the Regional Championship is theirs to lose. I figured that would be legal and within the rules of the game. If that is what happened.

Not by his call. He said that it was illegal to instigate A crowd. We argued that he wasn't taunting and he agreed but was "instigating" a crowd. I would like to see the rules regulating this. Players jump around and high five. Is this also a form of instigation for their crowd to cheer along with their players? Or is it only if directed straight to the crowd?

I am still trying to figure you out. Are you a TRUE Tomcat or not? Do you still support the Tomcats or another school. It's my post? When I played you didnt buddy up with opponents off the court or off the field. Maybe times has changed, where kids from different schools horses around together, but during Ashland's great teams, other schools feared to play us, that my friend is what earned respect and thank goodness Biggs is bringing that back. Do you honestly think I want my Tomcats not to be feared? You have a lot to learn. I am glad you and your co-horts decided to seed the district last year, you want Ashland in your metal can so bad...guess what? We are coming and will win. Our kids are getting hard nosed and are beginning to understand what it means to wear the Ashland uniforms with a right kind of pride. Bonner will do a number on the region this year especially against marshmellow nosed players.

I may bleed maroon but I give credit where credit is due and Elliot is a tough bunch of kids...just goes to show you if you wait and coach long enough eventually you will get some decent kids.
