Songs That Mean Something To You

I was listening to some music on my way to class this morning and started thinking...What song or songs actually mean something to you.

Not your favorite song but what songs truly mean something to you ? Songs that you listen to daily that remind you of someone. What songs do you listen to that for some reason just make you smile ?

For me:

1.) When I get where I'm going -- Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton

This song was played at my Grandpa's funeral last year and it makes me think of all the good times we had together.

2.) Free Bird -- Lynyrd Skynyrd

I kind of live my life like the lyrics of the song. I don't know why, but hearing this song can change my day.

3.) We're All In This Together -- Preformed by Old Crow Medicine Show

I lost a friend two years ago and this was played at his funeral. It also makes me think of him everytime I hear it.

I listen to these three songs atleast once a day. How about you ?

"Your Song" Elton John--My college boyfriend (who is now my husband) and I used to listen to it all the time.

"Wonderful Tonight" Eric Clapton--My first wedding dance.

Any time I hear either of these songs, I always stop what I'm doing and listen and remember.

1. Pine Box- Doug Stone (It really makes me think about a friend I had that commited suicide over relationship problems. I never thought someone could get so messed up over the opposite sex and get into that state of mind. It really makes me think)

2. Why Me Lord- Kris Kristofferson/Gaither Vocal Band/George Jones/You get the point. (This song makes me wonder why the Messiah ever cared about a guy that turned from God and never intended to look back until "Mercy Came Running" to me. *see number 3*)

3. Mercy Came Running- Phillips, Craig and Dean (Listen to the song and you will know why :D )

4. The Reason That I'm Standing- Crabb Family (Same reason as #3)

When I saw Elton John/Billy Joel in concert a few years ago, it was great hearing that live. Three hour plus concert, I think they both covered everything.

To this day I'm upset Elton didn't play Hakuna Matata, but I'm reminded again and again that's not his song, I don't care.

As for my song or songs, as goofy as this sounds. The band Suicidal Tendencies got me through A LOT when I was going through those fun teenager years 15-19, darn near every song I felt like I could relate to. Still very much enjoy a majority of their music to this day.

At the risk of raising the hackles of my BGP brethren that lean just a little more right than me (and that's most of them),

"Ohio", CSN(&Y)

Also:

"What a Wonderful World", Satchmo

"Imagine", John Lennon

"Dante's Prayer", Lorena McKennitt

"Bring Him Home", from Les Miserables

"Into the West", Annie Lennox

Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton (played at my 2nd cousin's funeral)

Get Over It - The Eagles (also played at my 2nd cousin's funeral, when they cut the cd player to radio. The Eagles were his favorite band)

...I'll have more later.

"Black" by Pearl Jam... Always keeps me thinking.

As many times as I have heard that song, the live version on the Benaroya cd is one of the best. When Eddie has the crowd since the bridge, just beautiful and chilling.

Watching Scotty Grow. My dad used to sing this to me all the time when I was a kid.

WATCHING SCOTTY GROW

(Mac Davis)

Bobby Goldsboro - 1971

There he sits with a pen and a yellow pad

He's a handsome lad

That's my boy

B-R-L-F-Q spells Mom and Dad

That ain't too bad

That's my boy

You can have your TV and your nightclubs

You can have your drive-in picture shows

I'll sit here with my little man near, we'll listen to the radio

Bidin' my time and and watching Scotty grow

Makin' castles out of building blocks

And a cardboard box

That's my boy

Mickey Mouse says it's thirteen o'clock

Well, that's quite a shock

But that's my boy

In four short years I've gone from rags to riches

But what I did before that I don't know

Well you can let it rain on my windowpane, I got my own rainbow

And we're just sittin' here shinin' watching Scotty grow

Up on daddy's shoulders and off to bed

Old sleepy head

That's my boy

Got to have a drink of water and a story read

An old teddy bear named Fred

That's my boy

Well, what's that your say Momma, come on and keep your feet warm

Well save me a place, I'll be there in a minute or so

I'll think I'll stay right here and say a little prayer before I go

'Cause me and God are watching Scotty grow

Me and God watching are Scotty grow
