January 30, 200818 yr I think AAU is can be used to develope player(s) and teams. It is the most highly competitive form of youth basketball there is. There are other forms of youth basketball that aren't as competitive. We use AAU to develope our team, down the road, for high school and also to develope our kids by playing agaist the top compitition. It truely is what it is! We play together but some of our kids branch off at national tourney time to a DI team to develope their game, which I have no problem with. Is AAU perfect? NO! Is it the best medium for devoping players and teams, YES! It isn't going to change, they have had huge success for many years so you have to adjust, or find another youth organization to play in. It is physical, there are a FEW bad people in it, and older kids will be playing in every division.... but all of that just makes you stronger and better. There is no child playing within the rules that will not be playing in that particular grade in high school because of age.... the only exception is the kid who started early to school and can play down a grade because they are so young that they meet the age requirement (not exception requirement) to play in that division. Learn to use the rules to your advantage and AAU will be a wonderful experience for you and your child....remember it's about competition... not winning... and competition only makes you better, which should be your ultimate goal. :thumb:

January 30, 200818 yr southernkyhoops maybe you can help me with this one??? Do you or anyone know anything about South Laurel and Fleming County's 6th grade teams?? They are playing at the BCI this weekend. Also, anyone know anything about the Frankfort Stallions???

They finished in 2nd Place last March in Rob Taylors Buckeye Prep Classic Tournament in March as 5th graders. They lost in the championship to OBC Showstoppers and beat some very quality teams. Darion Burns is one of their top players.

January 31, 200818 yr Unfortunately, as most of you know, you never know what you are going to get at the BCI! Armpit hair, mustaches, guns(biceps) in the 5th and 6th grades, its all good at the BCI. Should be the slogan.
January 31, 200818 yr Fleming County is very solid... the Burns kid can really play. They lost to Lincoln County in the middle school state, early. They played us to a 3 point game is last year's AAU state tournament.... and the year before that they beat us twice. They are similar to us, but I would say they don't hardly have the size... ours have outgrown theirs. They will get after you alot like we do. They are always a very difficult matchup for us. South Laurel...... Why did anyone have to mention South Laurel. we lost at South in a game that still amazes me. You should not have any trouble with south laurel. In our game we shot about 20%, they shot about 60%, our press had no energy and we created no turnovers till the very end. We came from 18 down at the end of the 3rd to take the lead at the end of the game only to see them make the last basket. They are an average team that shouldn't be able to handle pressure very well, they are not great shooters, and they are not that strong inside. With that said they kicked our tails, they deserved to win the game, so don't listen to anything I say about them.
