That's forward thinking on their part. They have to play the NKY Wolfpack at 10. They didn't have Quentin Snyder or Zach McCormick (broken hand) yesterday and almost lost to 5th grade Knights.

 

Nky Wolfpack lost to South Laurel's 7th grade (not 6th) by 20 and beat Fleming Co 6th grade by 25. It should be an interesting morning.

 

Boom keep us posted on the BCI as it goes. Give me a breakdown on SL 7th graders. I am hearing good things about that group even without Sanders.

Wolfpack lost 55 - 43. It was a 6 point game with 3 minutes left in the game, but the pack just couldn't hit shots when it mattered. Avery played well, Hatton of course had his usual game. The Tarheels went on the kill the Scott County Wolfpack by almost 30. They are playing SL 7th in the finals. SL should win the game, but you can never count the Tarheels. Tough team and unless CKY Warriors come up with answers with how good Hatton is - NKY Tarheels should take the D1 title.

 

To the earlier poster, Fleming County's players told some of the pack players they were 6th graders???? Whoever they were, wolfpack beat them by 25.

I think the Warriors will handle the Tarheels with the addition of Dishman(Somerset) and Portwood(thunder) at the state tournament. It was an awsome game last year for the state title, the tarheels led most of the way, before fading in the 4th.

I think with the addition of Quentin Snyder and how good Hatton is developing they will be a tough out for CKY Warriors. I hope that D1 and D2 are seperated this year. This will give more teams a shot at a championship.

If the Tar Heels can have an answer for Portwood they will win. They had no answer for the NKY Warriors 6'1 big man today and were outrebounded by a ton. NKY Warriors won 45-38 over the Tarheels. They were up most of the game up 14 at times.

 

Nate Grosser had 15 pts and 10 rebounds, David Christian had 8 boards. Hatton looked sluggish and not very good in the 1st half. He finished with 17 though and hit a 25 footer with a minute left to cut it to 5 but they could never get closer. NKY Warriors didnt look very good as they should have won by 20. They still have yet to have a practice this season. Once school ball is over they will hit it hard.

The Tarheels don't seem to know how to play late in a game with the lead. As well as they shoot the ball they should be able to go to a layups and free throws mode and win some of these big games. In the state championship they looked disorientated late and were playing not to lose... they dominated the first 3 quarters and then basically collapsed under the CKY Warriors pressure late.

That is a good observation. However, they do know how to come back from a deficit. I've watched that happen a couple of times.

 

Most teams miss the grit that the Tarheels have in order to compete on that level.

They made a nice run with a press late in our game yesterday and Hatton might be the best player I have seen in a long time. He had a bad game yesterday and still was hitting floaters in the lane, a couple long range bombs, etc. I think if he is playing 7th grade ball and didnt get held back he still would be top 10 in the state. Snyder and Hatton being held back in the 6th grade will definitely make a difference as they continue their careers. Hatton has grown a few inches since last year and seems stronger. Jalen Avery is a very good passer and if he can develop a shot he will also be a top player in the state down the road.

So Boom I am taking it that you all are hoping they have a Div 1 and Div 2 because your Wolfpack are going Div 2? Obviously playing Div 1 teams is going to make you all that much better.

While I will be told that I am wrong. I believe all the Wolfpack teams are D2 teams. Most of the teams take players from 2 or 3 schools in NKY. However, in order to be prepared for D2, our coaches believe the Wolfpack teams have to play D1 teams and strong D2 teams. I am still not convinced that there are going to be seperate tournaments. If there are seperate tourneys, I'm not convinced that the Legends will go D1. I believe the U12 Wolfpack will play in the National D2 tournament in Lexington this year.

Look for one tournament if only 2-3 teams go D1. Never forget who owns part of the KBA and the KBA holds the AAU state tournaments. There may actually be AAU ruleson this, based on the number of teams participating... seems like I was told that last season.

 

Tennessee has the D1 and then has the DII with all of the teams who didn't qualify to go to the nationals D1 elegible to play in the DII. Looks like that might work and at the same time help everyone.
