It's a dance and its name came from the Batutsi tribe of Rwanda.

 

Also a breed of cattle.

This is not menat to sound arrogant or disrespectful, but imagine what the players from belfry's Final's matchup would feel about having a place like this to play at?

 

We, as Belfry fans, can count ourselves as very fortunate to have the situation in place at our school, the administrative support (one heckuva principal I must add), the community involvement, the facilities, the veteran coaching staff that instills such morals, and the kids raised with such high moral values instilled by working class parents.

 

Belfry is an unimpressive place, a small county school in the middle of nowhere, yet with all the hard work put in by so many people, it has became a model for schools everywhere to say "Hey we can do this too"...

I love watching games there.

I don't think I've ever met an arrogant Belfry coach, player, or fan, and your post reflects the reward of MANY years of hard work and devotion to the Belfry Football Program and the school alike. It takes great leadership accomplish what Belfry has done, and as an outsider I congratulate the Belfry community on a job well done!

Great complex. I have a feeling they will be posting a new sign on it as well stating, 2007 State champs! Their team this year is the best that I have seen!

I don't know where the Pirate nickname came from. Somebody older than me will have to answer that one I guess.

From my understanding, it came from Jim Matneys uncle or great uncle one, the man was from Pitsburgh and put Pirates in the hat of names because of the baseball team and that was chosen.

I was told that by Mr Matney himself one day when he was talking about his heritage with Belfry.

Okay.....Jim Matney's family has name sake over the Belfry mascot! I think that might be debated.

Very impressive and picturesque with the hills in the background.

Kinda reminds me of the Sun Bowl in El Paso or BYU's stadium with the hills in the background, scaled down of course.

Knowing Jim its hard to tell, but it is defiantly a possiblility sicne his family has been part of Belfry since it started.

I had attended the Belfry/ JC game this year with a couple other AShland fans and I was amazed at what I saw. I was all great with the school and the field. Appears to be a great football school with dedicated fans.

The most amazing thing about this stadium is comparing it to the old complex.

I always thought that maybe Belfry players were so tough because they were never pampered, but they are still tough and you have to give the new facility the nod as the best in the area? I guess maybe it's just the way they are coached?

Vipperman, to Belfry fans, is hallowed ground. It is our Memorial Coliseum. While not the actual birthplace of Belfry football, it is the home to our emergence and the foundation for the program that we are today. It is a special place for us and it represents years of labor and strife by all who set foot on it. It definitely lacked in conveniences, but it made up for that in character and tradition.

 

And it will always be beloved and significant in the hearts of all Belfry Pirates who knew it during it's glory days.
