November 9, 200718 yr ^ They may have given him the option of resigning before giving him "the boot". I don't know and am just guessing. "Tom Osborne interim coach......Turner Gill leading the "children of the corn" next season"
November 9, 200718 yr Why can't they fire him? ^ They may have given him the option of resigning before giving him "the boot". I don't know and am just guessing. "Tom Osborne interim coach......Turner Gill leading the "children of the corn" next season" The story made it pretty clear that Callahan doesn't believe he and his staff will be back next year, but he will not quit, and Osborne has said that no changes will be made until after the season. Coaching contracts usually have buyout clauses that pay out in the event the contractor (the university) wishes to opt out of the contract (fire the coach). I believe Callahan just signed an extension after last season, so he probably has a rather large buyout. More than likely, he would not get the bulk of the buyout money, should he resign. If I'm in Callahan's shoes, I do the same thing. As for the University, from a fiscal standpoint why bring in an interm coach this late into the season? That's just peeing money away. Turner Gill is not going to do it for free and Tom Osborne has his hands full as the AD. Believe it or not, they do have other sports at Nebraska.
November 9, 200718 yr Hes gonna get fired Did you come up with that on your own, or from the story, Captain Obvious?
November 9, 200718 yr ^ They may have given him the option of resigning before giving him "the boot". I don't know and am just guessing. "Tom Osborne interim coach......Turner Gill leading the "children of the corn" next season" There is a couple scenarios that might come about...I think Gill too but I would not be shocked to see the go after Tubberville from Auburn. If Miles goes to Michigan they might make a run at Pelini but Joker Phillips is the hottest coach on the market right now.
November 9, 200718 yr Even if Callahan wins his final two games he will odds are get fired. I wish though that Callahan would have resigned right now and avoid being thrown out.
November 9, 200718 yr I thought hiring Callahan was a mistake from the start...I was skeptical of him from his short tenure in Oakland....yes, he went to the Super Bowl, but he totally lost his team in year 2. I think that Oakland team was so full of veterans and Callahan didn't change much, so they had enough left for another run...after that, it seems like he couldn't maintain control. His recruiting at Nebraska has been very good, so he's leaving the next coach with some pretty good talent is my guess. I can't say that I blame him for not resigning. Sounds like Nebraska wants him to give them an easy way out...it's his right to not allow it. Plus, if he could turn things around in the last few games, if nothing else, it might increase his chances of landing another job. If the Huskers want rid of him, they should fire him now.
November 9, 200718 yr While I don't know all of the inside information, not resigning wreaks of "money" on Callahan's part. I'm assuming but most Nebraska fans, probably aren't pleased with his efforts as coach. Expectations are high, rightfully so and it's been a struggle. Please correct me if wrong, but if fired....remaining portion of his contract gets paid to him.
November 9, 200718 yr I just new from the start of the year.. No you didn't. When they were in the Top 15 after beating Wake on the road? Come on BBI....
November 9, 200718 yr Author No you didn't. When they were in the Top 15 after beating Wake on the road? Come on BBI.... Thats what I was thinking when I read that. Hell I thought they were going to do awesome this year back then, which is prolly the reason we have sunk so low.
