Kentucky's Values

Featured Replies

I do wonder about the gap in the vote between Conway and Lee. Lee went out of his way to be the 'values' choice in the campaign, and Conway, a Democrat from Louisville, demolished him. Beat the snot out of him really.

I don't think Kentucky's swinging the other way on those four issues at all, but I think there's a little fatigue on them as the banner.

I think that is dead on.

Fletcher failed to deliver on promises

By The Cincinnati Enquirer Pat Crowley

On Monday morning Gov. Ernie Fletcher, an embattled Republican who appeared to be headed for loss in his re-election campaign, flew into Northern Kentucky for one last campaign visit.

Northern Kentucky had long been good to Fletcher. He carried the region with about 60 percent of the vote in 2003, raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for his political campaigns and spent a lot of time here over the past four years.

But with polls showing Fletcher trailing Democrat Steve Beshear by 20 points, a smallish crowd of GOP supporters gathered at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport for his election eve statewide fly around.

If they voted Steve Beshear and Jack Conway into office, they elected people who are those things.

People voted Jack Conway into office because he had a D after his name. Ask 50% of the people that voted for him and I would bet that they have no clue anything about him. My parents pull the straight D ticket and it is irrelevant who the D candidates are.

I have told them that if Satan was running as a D against me as a R, he would get their vote because of the D after his name.

Pro-Choice

Pro-health care for domestic partners

Pro-following the law on the 10 Commandments in public buildings

Anti-NRA (Conway/Lee)

My hope is that it shows an understanding that the above issues aren't really important to us because we are deadlocked in opinon and don't need to be wasting our time and resources on the most divisive and least correctable issues. Maybe it means that the public will ask the government to do what it can instead of fight over what it can not. But maybe I'm being to hopeful.
Sometimes people base their vote on the qualities of the candidate more than their stands on a few hot button issues.

Exactly. Casino gambling was the gay marriage of 2007.

Because Ernie was so unelectable because of his incompetency that Beshear could've been telling people he was a gay abortion doctor and it still might not have mattered.

With all the scare tactics that Fletcher tried to pull out at the end I am surprised that he did not tell us that Beshear was a "gay abortion doctor"

I really am tired of the religious and moral candidate stance. Let's talk about the issues and leave private matters private. From what I see there are as many gay, pro choice, republicans as democrats.

Maybe many were voting against Stan Lee because he came across as a hateful zealot and total wacko.:creepy:

And your theory can be equally applied to Republicans always voting for their candidates, no matter what.;)

I voted for candidates from both parties yesterday.

I am fairly well knowledgeable on the political matters. At least, more than most.

I have NO CLUE on what you are talking about concerning Lee.

I voted for Conway. Why? I am registered Democrat. Knew minimal to nothing on either and Conway was the Dem. Got my vote.

I believe there are many more registered Dems in this state than registerd Reps. So they just vote party and the Dems should never lose a race.

I too voted for both parties. My votes won all the lower races and I wrote in my wife's name for governor.:D

I don't think that's entirely true. Grayson was easily able to overcome the R in front of his name. Stan Lee ran a poor campaign and sold himself as a religious fanatic. He literally branded himself as something most opponents would want to caricature him as.

I was frankly stunned by Fletcher's use of scare tactics in the last couple of weeks before the elections. You could tell he was really grasping at straws at that point.

As I stated in the post above yours, I know nothing of what you are talking about and voted Conway because I did not know anything and he was a Democrat. And I thought he was the one who beat Hearsay in a case.:D:lol:

I work with two adults. In the lesser races, they voted straight party ticket. EXCEPT for Grayson who got one person's vote because they like the name Trey and Richie who they knew and voted for him.

Neither knew ANYTHING about Conway or Lee. I think this is pretty normal.

Now, if either was from your area, it would probably be different because you knew the guy. Neither are from our area, so no one cares.

I saw Lee's appearance at Fancy Farm. That was enough for me to not vote for him.

If I don't know much about who's running, I leave the race blank. No disrespect meant to the office of Railroad Commissioner, but that's one I never end up knowing anything about; despite having good intentions to look into it ahead of time.

But in this state, such leanings must be carefully tucked away behind God, country, Smith & Wesson.

So you agree with me? ;):p  :walk:

So you agree with me?
Not as a general rule.
