November 7, 200718 yr Fletcher promised that his years in office would be different than what the Dem did in the past, but low and behold he did the same things that they did. When someone promises to do something then doesn't do it, a lot of people vote against you who voted for you the first time. It's called trust, when you can't trust someone, you don't vote for that person........ Fletcher broke a huge promise to many in his four years in office, and for that, he lost......Nothing Beshear did helped him win as much as Fletcher breaking his promise to the people who elected him the first time.

However, Ernie has the 4 Gs on his side Guns Gays (anti) Gynos (pro-life) God (just put the 10 Commandments in the Rotunda yesterday) So what you are saying is that the people of Kentucky threw all of this stuff out the window because Fletcher tried to hire Republicans into state government?
November 7, 200718 yr acemona, put it this way: If you decide to run for statewide office at some point, and you present a pro-Choice, pro-health care for domestic partners, anti-NRA platform... ...don't budget a whole lot for confetti.

I just saw a lot of confetti at the Frankfort Civic Center. Beshear supports the Universities in their quest for domestic partners He is pro-choice but personally against abortion
November 7, 200718 yr However, Ernie has the 4 Gs on his side Guns Gays (anti) Gynos (pro-life) God (just put the 10 Commandments in the Rotunda yesterday) So what you are saying is that the people of Kentucky threw all of this stuff out the window because Fletcher tried to hire Republicans into state government? What a person says he is for doesn't mean as much to most when he doesn't do what he promises. Not trusting someone is the reason why many didn't vote for him.... And yes he said his term would be different then what has become the norm in this Commonwealth. He had a real chance to make a difference and he didn't do it....and I for one think he has set the Rep party in Kentucky back years, and years.
November 7, 200718 yr I just saw a lot of confetti at the Frankfort Civic Center. Beshear supports the Universities in their quest for domestic partners He is pro-choice but personally against abortion Beshear in no way shape or form led his campaign with the issues I mentioned. He may lean that way. But in this state, such leanings must be carefully tucked away behind God, country, Smith & Wesson.
November 7, 200718 yr So what you are saying is that the people of Kentucky threw all of this stuff out the window because Fletcher tried to hire Republicans into state government? No. You are overgeneralizing. I don't doubt that quite few pro-life or pro-gun people pulled the trigger for Beshear. Beshear did not run on a platform of being pro-choice and anti-gun. Although he did respond to questions about it, I'm certain you saw no billboards or commercials shouting "Beshear is Pro-Choice!" At least not from the Beshear campaign anyway. What you did see is Ernie Fletcher failing to prove he was worthy of election. Fletcher never proved to the voters he was more qualified than Beshear. As Birdsfan pointed out, single issue voters, at the least, fell into the minority of people who voted for Fletcher. The only point on this you can really make concerning any sort of shift in "values voting" is that the state was not convinced by Ernie's trotting out of cliche religious and conservative trifles.
November 7, 200718 yr Beshear in no way shape or form led his campaign with the issues I mentioned. He may lean that way. But in this state, such leanings must be carefully tucked away behind God, country, Smith & Wesson. As they should be!!! And if you are found to be in favor of these issues AFTER the election, you best be ready to answer to the people...as it is MEANT to be!
November 7, 200718 yr We shall wait and see what the new government does or doesn't do for our state. All can talk a good talk , but putting that into acton is another thing.
November 7, 200718 yr For the record, I personally agree with every post thus far in this thread made by Birdsfan. I am a Republican and describe myself as a fiscal conservative and social/moderate. I voted for Beshear because of several key missteps made by Fletcher during his term (and the overblown hiring scandal is NOT one of them). I do disagree with Beshear on some of his positions, but then again I disagree with EVERY candidate about something. Also, the fact that Beshear is from my hometown didn't hurt.
November 7, 200718 yr What does this election say about Kentucky. Pat Crowley of the Enquirer pointed it out over a month ago and the results bear it out. Snapshot of the election: Boone County - barely supported Fletcher by just a few hundred votes but significantly supported the rest of the Republican ticket. Why. Simple. Kentucky will tolerate many things but will not stand for a hypocrite. That is exactly what ex-Gov. to be Fletcher was, simply a hypocrite on so many fronts. That is all this election says.
November 7, 200718 yr For the record, I personally agree with every post thus far in this thread made by Birdsfan. Can we have this post bronzed? Because nobody ever said that to me before...and it may never happen again.
November 7, 200718 yr I do wonder about the gap in the vote between Conway and Lee. Lee went out of his way to be the 'values' choice in the campaign, and Conway, a Democrat from Louisville, demolished him. Beat the snot out of him really. I don't think Kentucky's swinging the other way on those four issues at all, but I think there's a little fatigue on them as the banner.
November 7, 200718 yr I just saw a lot of confetti at the Frankfort Civic Center. Beshear supports the Universities in their quest for domestic partners He is pro-choice but personally against abortion I've said it before and I'll say it again, that makes absolutely no sense.
November 7, 200718 yr I've said it before and I'll say it again, that makes absolutely no sense.Sure it does. People have the right to choose, but for you it isn't the right choice. I'm pro choice but personally opposed to beets, for example. As long as I don't have to kiss you, you're free to do what you want, but I won't eat them.
