O.K., First let me say that I am sure that there is no way that a defensive player would win the Heisman Trophy this season. What I am asking is should any defensive players be considered?

I believe the award is listed as being for "The Best Player in College Football".

 

I believe that Ohio State Linebacker James Laurinaitis should at least get consideration/invitation to the award presentation. I just believe that he should be considered one of the best "Football" payers in the country and acknowledged as such.

 

What say you? Are there any others out there that think that defensive players should get mention for this award?

Any other nominies from the "D" side of the ball?

Glenn Dorsey at LSU is a manchild and has to be on a defensive short list.

Dan Connor , Linebacker at Penn State broke Posluzny's school tackling record during the Purdue game. IMO, he's had a great year and a great career at PSU.

For a defensive player to get it they would have to be a playmaker,as in returning punts, or interceptions for TD's. I agree some probably deserve it, but unless they're a Woodson type player it won't happen.

Dont see it happening. Dorsey would need alot of T.D's to win. :lol:

USF's Selvie is pretty good. By which I mean incredible.

Are you saying that he makes everyone around him better or you see better players than him?

 

His performance against the Badgers was one of the best I have ever watched. 19 tackles and a fumble recovery was impressive.

:thumb: I agree, imo Dorsey and Laurinaitis are the two best defensive players in the country.

Everytime I watch Laurinaitis play, it seems I see about 5 better players on defense around him.

 

I agree in that there are others on the Buckeye defense worthy of recognition but imo none are better than J.L..

As cvillecat stated, his 19 tackles and a fumble recovery last Saturday was unbelievabe one of the best I have seen since maybe Bosworth at Oklahoma.

Having watched him (Laurinaitis) the last couple of years I wouldn't be suprised if we see another equal performance out of him or maybe even better.

 

I could add Gholston (#50) and Jenkins (#2) certainly and other Buckeyes to the list as well along with Laurinaitis. :thumb:

I know I am in the minority here, but I believe he is overrated. Don't get me wrong he is a great player, but not as great as some try to make him out to be. IMO he is not even close to being as good as the last great linebacker they had in AJ Hawk. I have yet to see JL really step up and dominate and take over a game against a great offense like AJ Hawk was able to. Hawk and his defense was amazing no matter what offense they went against, including the great Vince Young in college. Yeah JL has done good against, decent offenses at best in his career so far. I mean the two best offenses he has seen has been UM and UF, and those teams smoked him and the defense with their speed. So I definitely am holding off on saying how great he is like some people have...I know I also dont seem him being much more than just a decent linebacker at best in the NFL..
