I hope this shuts these guys down. Or better yet, the Holy Spirit convicts them of what they are doing is wrong and they change for the better. The homosexual lifestyle is wrong but this is NOT the way to do it.

 

(CNN) -- A federal jury in Baltimore, Maryland, Wednesday awarded $10.9 million to a father of a Marine whose funeral was picketed by members of a fundamentalist church carrying signs blaming soldiers' deaths on America's tolerance of homosexuals.

The family of Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder -- who was killed in a vehicle accident in Iraq's Anbar province in 2006 -- sued the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, and its leaders for defamation, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Church founder Fred Phelps said the church would appeal the decision, adding it would "take about five minutes to reverse that thing." Watch Phelps laugh at the people trying to silence him »

 

"This will elevate me to something important," Phelps told reporters. "This was an act of futility."

 

Later, Phelps said the case was about "putting a preacher on trial for what he preaches."

Regardless of the results of the appeal, good luck collecting. :irked:

When I talked to Margie I asked her "why carry the name Baptist, you are not associated with the Baptist Church in any form and you don't have the service requirements od Preaching the Gospel?" She said "Leave us alone you are going to hell".

 

Lot of folks will see the "Baptist Name" and think wrong about the Church.

 

I'm surprised that the sinners didn't countersue.

Could technically the other Baptist Churches sue as they are slandering the Baptist name but are not Baptists?

^^^, good question Ladies, I have to ask my lawyer. Paul talks about sueing in 1st Corinthians 6:1:8

 

They don't have worship services.

Finally somebody gets some justice from the horror they bring to the families.

I really hope the WBC loses as much as they can from this. They've won far too many suits and it sickens me. When you've got an entire family of lawyers it can be tough to win against them, regardless of how obvious the crime is.

I'd be curious to see what the ruling was based on and how the appeal process goes.

 

Its a wonder the Rev has not had one of his signs used as a weapon against him.

These "people" video tape all of their "protests". They have been assaulted and they have agressively sued thost that accosted them. They use the videos to identify people.

 

I heard mouth piece for the group, Shirley Phelps Whatever on the radio today. She said that the courts have infringed on their right to practice their religion as well as their first amendment rights and that there was no way they would lose on appeal. She also said that the fires in California are a sign of God's displeasure with the suit against them. She said some other things as well but the woman sickens me so I didn't listen to closely. I honestly believe that Fred and his inbred society that he has created believe they are the only people on Earth that are following God's laws.
