Kentucky’s law has already been challenged by the ACLU, which insists that the law is so broad that it makes it a crime to whistle while walking within earshot of a funeral or to stop for a conversation on a public sidewalk adjacent to a funeral home or place of worship while a funeral service is in progress.

 

If it's intentionally disruptive or continues after it is addressed, then a whistle should be included... imo

Those people are ignorant and got exactly what they deserved..(well, not exactly) You do not come to a fallen military person's funeral and protest. there should not have to be any law that tells you that is wrong..you should just know that is WRONG

Again, I keep wondering to myself how nothing ill has come of these folks in all their many trips to Kentucky. There are plenty of violent redneck scumbags in this state who would probably kill another man for a beer or 20 bucks. Why aren't these people being put to productive use and tabbed to "influence" the Phelps family into a line of thinking that Kentucky is just not a good place for their protests?

What are there, three cops in a place like Owsley County or some of our other small counties in the state? And most of those are probably overwhelmingly sympathetic to the bereaved families? Can't get any of those guys to look the other way, or get called away on an accident at some point during the funeral?

It's amazing to me what the government and its agencies feel the need to protect v/s what it needs to stand against...

Like I said I have been involved with these people. Nothing is off the record. They record everything. They go through all the proper channels. If they show up in Owsley Co. where there are only three police officers you will see about twelve troopers on that day. I'm not saying I agree with it or even like it, but the police are required to protect them. Now this new law makes it illegal for them to come to Kentucky to protest a funeral where it would make a difference. Therefore they won't show up because nobody will protect them.

People need to take the Phelps' seriously. They call themselves a church, but in reality they are a business. I have personally dealt with them. Prior to a protest they contact area law enforcement and the court system. It is very unlikely anyone will be able to get to them, due to their incistence on protection. They are wanting something to happen. Criminal court means nothing to them. They are trying to get into a situation where they can sue someone. Fred's daughter or daughter-in-law is a lawyer. She is very pleasant prior to the protest. They are professionals.

In other words...they're scam artists of the worst kind.

 

The Constitutional right to free speech only protects you from governmental censorship. It guarantees that you can have your voice heard. It doesn't guarantee that others will be forced to listen to you.

Snake oil peddlers deserve to be shown the county line. If they drift back in it should be at their own risk. Thes idiots make a mockery of both the right to free speech and the right to practice religion. And in my opinion it gives those who would deny these rights to deserving individuals and groups more ammunition with which to fight.

I hate what these people have to say, but I will defend their right to say it.

 

It sickens me that people can defend them. They wouldn't even have the right of free speech if it wasn't for those of us who risk our lives. They can say what they want to who they want but not when they want.
