November 1, 200718 yr I assume he's not joking and I completely agree. It goes right along with my 5-day-old practice jerseys that have certain "aroma" to them. Its not the smell itself but, rather, its the association of the smell with a great time in your life. :thumb: That is how I took it as well, at least I hope that is what is was related to :eek:. As for mine everyone has pretty much already poste what I would think - I saw this thread too late I guess but I will try one not listed yet that maybe some of the "older" guys will remember. 1.) The smell of " Atomic Balm" or "Cramergesic" - those were muscle rubs something like "Icy hot" or some of the ones used today. Those may still be around, I don't know but if anyone has ever used them then you would know it........ By the way, this was before ad not to be confused with the "Balco and Barry Bonds" rubs :lol: As for my others, they have pretty much already been listed by others: *Sound of a baseball "popping" a catchers mitt *Sound of the Crack of a WOODEN BAT, not t be confused with that "ping" of metal..........arrrrrrrrrggh. *Taste of Hot Dogs at the Ball park. he Click...Klack of Cleats on Pavement - football or baseball. *The sound of a "slobberknocker" hit in football (pads cracking) Sound of shoes squeaking on a basketballl court and the bouncing of the basketball. *The sound of a School band playing their "fight Song" as the team runs out on the field (or court).
November 1, 200718 yr Well, if we're going with all sports, I'm pretty fond of the sound a bowstring makes and the "thud" when it hits it's target. And my favorite has to be the "spit and drum" of the wild turkey. Pretty fond of the smell of a new baseball glove and the feel of the grip on a new aluminum bat. Hate the smell of an 8 week old chinstrap, but love the sound of it being snapped.
November 1, 200718 yr Sights: A scattering of fall leaves on the first fairway. Watching someone striping the football field. Team football captains heading out to midfield for the coin flip. Going to a MLB ballpark and seeing the field for the first time. As Crash Davis said, "the ballparks are like cathedrals." Introductions at the final game of the Sweet 16. Sounds: A putt dropping in the hole. Click clack. A diver knifing through the water at the perfect angle. Listening to a couple hundred runners start the state XC race. The start of just about any horse race. A thrower (shot or discus) grunting on a career throw. Speed bag (boxing). Gotta agree with whoever said the squeaking of basketball shoes. Smells: Freshly mown grass - any venue (baseball, football, golf, cross country, etc.). Oiling a baseball glove. Dogs and burgers on the grill at a tailgate.
November 1, 200718 yr The thing that gets me the most at any sporting event is the playing of our National Anthem and the roar of the crowd as the song hits the final verse, it moves me every time.

I would also add the smell of Black Powder on a crisp winter morning.
November 1, 200718 yr In no particular order... - The sound of a referee slapping a wrestling mat after somebody gets pinned. - The sound a crowd makes when they show a replay of a big hit on the video board. - Seeing a goal post being torn down. - Seeing a sea of blue 3 times on Commonwealth Stadium's field. - Hearing a football team beat on their locker room door before the take the field. - Smelling good popcorn - The sound of the crowd when Stevie Johnson caught the game-winning TD vs. Louisville.
November 2, 200718 yr Back in the day when we went to all of Union College's home basketball games, they always played "Sweet Georgia Brown" before the game while the teams were warming up and you could hear it from the time you stepped out of the car in the parking lot......I loved that walk to the gym on those cold winter evenings.....great memories!
