1. Central (11-3)

Head coach: Ty Scroggins

2006: Lost to Bowling Green 21-14 in the state semifinals

 

Former University of Louisville player Ty Scroggins comes to Central after a successful stint as the head coach at Doss.

 

And Scroggins takes over a program that – if not rocked by injuries – will be one of the main contenders for the Class 3A. Central could be even better this year that it was a year ago when the Yellowjackets finished 11-3 and lost in the state quarterfinals.

 

Quarterback Leland Banks is the senior leader. He’s a three-year starter, threw for 1,500 yards and ran for 300 more last season while totaling 19 touchdowns.

 

Running backs Dre Wesley and Teryl Wadlington are among 17 seniors on the roster, while Justin Burrus, Mister Cobble and Brandon McKinney will anchor the lines.

 

The top player on defense will be junior linebacker Ridge Wilson (6-4, 210), who is already drawing major Division I attention, and sophomore linebacker Tim Patterson.

I expect Highlands to win this one, and it wouldn't shock me if this was a big win either. Unlike most teams that have Highlands on there schedule I don't think Central will see this game as the big match up of the season hurting there chances of winning. Central has play respectably against the stronger teams but hasn't been able to get the win in any of the marquee match ups this season, I think this will also be sitting heavy on there minds.

 

A note to those visiting Central for the first time. The stadium is new and nice however the visitors section is tiny. I don't know how well Highlands fans travel but if you typically bring a large contingent and are particular about getting a good seat, try to get there early.

 

Another thing, parking is scarce. While there are some new urban renewal sub divisions built south of the stadium that are very nice and seem perfectly safe, nobody I know would feel comfortable with the idea roaming the streets of west Louisville after dark looking for your car.

I was a proud Green teamer in fifth and sixth grade. In 7th and 8th we had a north and a south team because we played against several other middle school teams. With all the other middle school teams included, the championship game still ended up being the North vs South in the championship. We lost to the North but thank god those guys were on our team next year. Us south-siders will have no problems walking through the Louisville neighborhood-hopefully:rolleyes:

So did anyone ever find out if there is a good place to park for pre-gaming?????????
