Not very familiar with Henry Clay this year, any thoughts?

They have the best WR in Kentucky in AAron Boyd, a big 6'3 or 4 target, they have a vary talented running back in Dontae Gay, and a solid QB in Ryan Phillippi with quick feet and good arm. The questions have been on defense but they are 7-1 with the loss being to a LaSalle team from Cincy.

Lasalle beat Elder a couple of weeks later then got chewed up with injuries against Moeller and St X.

Does anyone have inside information on how this game came to pass? Are the ADs friends?

 

I think it's awesome that two potential state championship quality teams are meeting during the regular season in a game not mandated by district boundaries.

 

I have picked these two to make trips to St. Matthews later this season.

As long as the Rocks can hold up their end of the bargain.

 

Boone County was impressive on Fox Sports Ohio versus Dixie Heights.

Henry Clay has done well and stuck to their returning QB instead of moving Boyd. As long as they do not have a letdown in the rematch with Lafayette, the Blue Devils should make at least one appearnace in Louisville this playoff season.

If Boone wins this game that just helps Owensboro look a lot better. Booneis a good team, and from the looks of it Henry Clay is too. Toss up probably, I'll go Boone 35 HC 28

This game is the result of the realignment to six class football by the KHSAA. Boone County needed a game to make ten regular season contests and this is Henry Clay's ninth and final regular season ballgame. They were unable to schedule a tenth game.

 

Henry Clay and Boone County played several times in the 1990's including the game at Henry Clay on a Saturday afternoon that drew the largest crowd in Henry Clay history. The main attraction that afternoon was a pretty fair running back from Boone County named Shaun Alexander who gashed the Blue Devils for big yardage and a Rebel victory.

 

There is a strong possibility that both these teams will travel to St. Matthews later in the playoffs. Since Trinity already has two losses, one would think it is pretty assumptive thinking on your part, but you certainly have history and every other reason to think this way.

 

By the way, the quarterback that Henry Clay "stuck" with, combined throwing and running for 40 touchdowns last year. I think he has almost 30 combined this year. The thought of Aaron Boyd moving to quarterback has never existed at Henry Clay. It would help Henry Clay's offense if Ryan Phillippi could throw to himself, since he is the fastest Blue Devil.

 

Trinity will be seeing firsthand, Henry Clay's opponent in the second round of the playoffs (assuming they can defeat hapless Tates Creek) as the Rocks play both Dunbar and Lafayette to round out the season. Trinity should beat both handily. The mud bowl at Lafayette might make that game a little more interesting. I will go out on a limb and predict that Dunbar beats Lafayette in the first round of the playoffs in part, due to Lafayette's post-Trinity hangover. I am hoping that Henry Clay can play two games in Louisville this season.

 

By the way, as far as the Henry Clay/Boone County game on Friday, I would not be surprised by a 50-49 score. Henry Clay is loaded with weapons and I am impressed by Corey Farris and the Boone County offense as well. You might have noticed I did not predict who would win this one.....just the score!

Thanks for the information regarding how the series started. I wish Henry Clay had called Trinity before Dunbar and Lafayette.

 

As for the QB, it happened during last year's playoff game. It also was a topic brought up by someone very close to Henry Clay's program and some options were being discussed. You may PM me if you want more details. It doesn't matter now and I'm happy things worked out for the young man and his teammates.

I thought the consensus best WR in the state was the kid from Somerset?

Aaron Boyd is 6'4"/200. He looks like a NFL player in uniform and thus, the major college coaches are eating him up.

 

John Cole is probably 5'10"/170. He is one of the most polished wide receivers I have seen on the high school level. He received and verbally accepted a nice offer from Vanderbilt University.

 

These two are among the best in the state. They have very contrasting styles and it is hard to compare them because of it.
