Belfry will eat East Carter alive. They play with alot of heart, but they are no match for the likes of Belfry. A lot of young Pirates will be playing in the second half.

You know how Belfry travels... large numbers that arrive early.

 

I do know that there were a bunch of us walking the fence during the Russell/East game. But I would rather walk any way.

2 words. Running Clock! Belfry is the real deal.

East Carter has very little offense. Stop Carroll and you stop East Carter. The Raider defense does run to the ball and they tackle fairly well.

They have a nice fullback, Mav White, Carroll all around athlete, a big slow line, bring a chair not much seating. Directions, come west on I-64, turn at the Grayson exit, go left to get to town, turn left at 3rd stop light by sheriff's office also their city building, go left about a mile to a caution light, turn right, go up a hill, school on right, bear to right for parking, hope rain softens field, cause it is the hardest ground in eastern Ky., like playing on blacktop, I see no problem for you all, should be able to rest starter's before half, rain expected in area, and don't forget your chairs or you will be standing along side of a fence

Mav White plays very few snaps at fullback. That is where you will usually find the bullish Kyle Huffine. White is normally at wing/dive back or in the back of the I.

 

There is no big, slow line in sight. Both tackles are >6' and less than 225 pounds. The guards are smaller than that in both height and weight. The center is

 

The field used to be very hard--known as the rock. They put some sort of crushed up rubber on it that has soften it considerably. True, rain would help it even more.

 

As for the team's play...who knows? Lots of high hopes in Grayson with this years Raiders entering the season as evidenced by the fact that they even scheduled Belfry. They have played ok at times but well short of expectations in every facet of play.

 

Belfry is the obvious pick no doubt.

 

Consider this--Mason drilled the Raiders, but East had maybe 8 or more turnovers. Mason was better but the score was deceiving. Russell beat East in a fairly competetive game in which East missed several opportunities especially with Jones on a bum ankle.

 

Not trying to build up East cause they need to play to back anything like that up. I am just saying that I have seen a lot of football in this area (NEKy) over the years and it is about as weak as I have ever seen it. (East Carter is 4th in the 3A district and yet if they were competing in the 4A district they would have already wrapped up the first place seed with victories over Rowan and Boyd. Go figure?) Mason and Russell are the best but compared to previous Russell and Mason teams they are average. Belfry is usually even with Russell and if that is the case this year then Belfry is probably not nearly as good as the Pirate faithful believe. Point being--if this is a good Belfry team by Belfry standards then they can name the score against East. However, if this is a good Belfry team by this years 3A standards then the Raiders of East Carter just may play them closer than expected.

 

One thing the Pond Creek nation needs to know...the field is rough, the seating is limited, but the tailgating area is the best around with new parking areas behind the school. Come early with good eats and I may come and introduce myself to you! That's a warning!

If they play like the 2nd half against SC they are good by Belfry/statewide standards, not 3A and I say Russell that good will be by the end of the season................

Belfry by a LOT . To big and to many on the sidelines for EC

East has experimented with multiple offenses (spread, power I, pro I) and have not been very successful with any. They scored 35 against a good Raceland team running the Power I. Perhaps they have found something in their win against Rowan County, but I say that Belfry will shut their offense down.

 

East's defense is pretty physical and will hit you in the mouth. They have some athletes on offense, but I think their lack of committment to any one offense has stymied them. If they have finally become comfortable with an offense, they may give Belfry some minor fits, but I see Belfry big in this one. If Belfry's defense is a good as advertised, I smell a shutout.

From what it sounds like, East Carter sounds a lot like Magoffin County, except more athletic.

Haven't seen Belfry but I say they win big. Not slighting East, but a ranked team should have no problem with them. What what I've saw and read East has very little in the passing game, Carroll is a dangerous player and a threat from anywhere on the field. They have some good players, but I agree when you go through 3 or 4 different offenses in a season your going to struggle. I look for East to come out as strong as they can, they usually play up to their competition, but simply they don't have enough for the upper teams in 3A. I think their defense is aggressive, but from what I saw it wasn't very disciplined. Good luck to them, my hats off to the staff as well for having the stones to schedule such a good opponent. It will only improve their team, and make them tougher for the playoffs.
