It seems that you are the only one thinking the game is ridiculous. If the Devils are playing as sloppy as you have been telling everyone, the game may be more important than what you want to believe. And for the record, IMO a high school game should never be labled ridiculous.

I never said it wasn't important to work on some things. That is exactly what I said I would like to see done. Rest Jones' ankle and give Cordle some snaps. Let Bailey and Bates get more carries. All to help the team.

These (high school)kids (all teams) bust their butts all summer and in the off season and beyond with weight training, off season workouts, etc.,etc. and with practices eveyday, two and three a days in the summer and imo should not be critisized by fans, leave that to the coaches - they know what they need to do better than anyone else.

Aside from the useless chatter between fans. This game will be between two very well coached teams. Raceland will know Russell's offense better than most teams around. I expect them to be very well prepared. These are two of the better programs and coaching staffs in this part of the state. Should be very entertaining for those who get to watch it.

IMO any critisizm of a player should come from the Coach or a member of the coaching staff that knows what they are doing and why that are "Inside the Program" and not from an average fan in the stands.

I know that almost always the coaches do not critisize their team/players in public (like when interviewed on radio or for a newspaper article for example), they may say something like we played bad "general statements" but for the most part that is about it.

These message board/threads are public forums as well and most of us are not varsity coaches so I can be mature enough not call out a high school kid/kids on them.

Doesn't mean that I don't have questions and complaints. Just means that these are high school kids and imo anything said should be very general in nature and not specific. That is a coaches job.

Russell barely beats Boyd and Ashland every year. And in 2005 Boyd won and didn't win a game after that {maybe one}. As for Ashland and Russell they go back and forth with wins, but they are always close games. The only weakness I can figure is having good rival games. You need to get those eyes looked at........ they look alittle red.

I will refer you to the very last line on my previous post and leave it at that.

Here is my take on the game. Take it for what it's worth.

 

This game is just a bragging rights game. Much like the Russell/Ashland or the Raceland/Ashland game. This late in the year with Russell getting ready to face some pretty stiff competition in the playoffs we need the key players to be 100% healthy. If that means they set out this game and we lose it the so be it. In the greater scheme of things Russell has to start the play offs in a few weeks and that is what they play the game for. To go as deep as possible into the playoffs and for a shot at going to the carpet.

 

For the Russell fans would it be worth getting the star players hurt worse just to win a local rivalry game?

 

 

I agree. If I were the Coach and had to make the choice of playing Jones or letting his leg heal I would put Jones in for one series and not allow him to carry the ball. After that series he would help Coach Cordle who is the next Russell QB. If Jones goes out Cordle is the man. We know Cordle can do the job he has already proven that. He just needs more reps. If I were a gambling man I would say that Jones will play very little if at all. I really think that three weeks rest on that leg will do it some good. Don't underestimate Cordle either he is a very good QB.

If you are talking about his dad, Mike Jones then I certainly. Mike was a star running back for Russell the last time that these two played. His son is now a star at Russell. Am I right in that is what you were talking about?

 

As for being more important to Raceland I feel that any game is important, this is a local interest game that I, like some others would like to see for "old times" sake. I think that it will be a huge $$$$ draw and benifit both programs in that way. As far as "Big Step" of "Have to have" game for Raceland it is not. Yes, Raceland wants to win and Russell does as well. Will either program live or die over it, .....I know that Raceland won't and I would say that Russell wouldn't as well.

But having said that......Is a big game but I would think that I am very safe in saying a that as far as Raceland is concerned that L.C.A. , Fairview, Paris and Nicholas County are far more important in that they are district games and the 1st playoff game is far more important than this one with Russell. So, yes Raceland wants to beat Russell, any team-player or coach that doesn't want to win any game shouldn't be out there and I think that I include Russsell in that as well.

The downplaying it sounds good but in reality...all want to win. Would I trade this one for a playoff game win...NO.

It is what it is and will give Raceland some very good competition to help them prepare for a playoff run. That's it

....Raceland is all about the playoffs and wanting advance in them and that imo is that this game is used for, using it for playoff preparation.. I would hope that no one is flattering themselves - Raceland Football certainly does not need any game/opponet to make a statement of any kind. I am sure that Russell feels the same way and they should. :thumb:
