Russell played real sloopy ball but won. mason co. is better than I thought but not quiet good enough yet. Russell will play alot better come playoff time.

Russell was lucky, Mason County coach, played to win the game, hat's off to him, Russell team not as strong as the past 2 season's, Belfry must be licking their chop's.

I have always heard at home go for the win if on the road go for the tie. I would like have seen this game maybe the rematch. A very good win for Russell see you guy next week.

After reviewing the books you are correct sir. Play for the second overtime at home and go for the win on the road.

Without a doubt one of the sloppiest and poorly played games I have watched. Both teams played hard but neither really well IMO. Way to many silly penalties and careless turnovers. Fumbles and dropped passes nearly doomed Russell.

 

Both teams were very physical on defense. #60 for Mason was very impressive tonight. Jones, Rice, Smith and Foster all had big hits for Russell. Russell played alot of Cover 2 giving up a little bit against the run but the secondary played much better.

 

Drew Abrams was a workhorse. Really ran hard in the second half. Keep it up.

 

Tyler Jones made the play of the game on the two point conversion. It appeared that Mason was going to run a pick route to get the RB in the flat. Jones stuffed him in the backfield and did not let him release. Cox was forced to look for other options and the pass was incomplete over the middle. Was the 2pt conversion the right call? I think it was. It was just well defended.

 

For one player that I won't name. Keep your head up. Instead of trying to make the spectacular play just make the smart play and everything will be just fine. Your team needs you.

 

Have to agree, one of the sloppiest games I've seen that didn't involve rain or snow. Can't see either one of these teams going farther after the rematch. Mason being basically off for 2 weeks+ didn't help their game tonight.

Cliches are irrelevant. Nothing wrong going for the win. What better opportunity can you ask for than having to get 3 yards to win the game? Do you want to rely on Suzy Soccergirl to tie the game?

Wow I have yet to see you say anything positive about any team that wins. It always seems to be luck, players out, players hurt or bad coaching etc. Why not congratulate a team on a win and stop with all the excuses?

There for a while we could not catch anything that was in the air. We muffed every punt and dropped every pass until late in the second half when we caught one pass. I listened to the post game show and Coach Bucannon came on and said his team played their best game to date. We may see Mason again in about three weeks. I can assure everyone of one thing. If we continue to put the ball on the ground that will be our last game. We came out of there with a lucky win. Luck was with Mason County all game until that sack that took them out of FG range. I feel very confident that the Devils will hang onto the ball after they see how badly they look on film. Sometimes we need a little luck to win those close games.

I don't think so. Russell....with 24-27 Seniors was definitely the favorite...and rightfully so. Unfortunately they had to play a 5A school in the finals...and still had opportunities to win the game.

I admire a Coach that goes for it all in OT. Shows the confidence he has in both his kids and his opponents. I remember when Jim Matney done the same thing at Sheldon Clark against Rockcastle Co. in the Regional Finals I believe. SC threw an INT and Rock won the game. A great game to be a spectator.

It does take guts to put it on the line. I have a feeling that the Coach did not want to get into a long OT to decide the game. At least that is what it sounded like during his post game interview. I think it was a great call.

 

Mason County is always fun to watch. You can bet they will be ready if we see them again down the road.

Let's not start counting our chickens before they hatch. Russell has to beat East and Mason has to beat West before the Russell/Mason rematch. They should both be wins but you know how fickle high school football can be.
