Russell 27 Mason Co. 26 (OT)

Great game with two great coaches...not just as knowledgable football minds but classy gentlemen as well. With that said, allow me to second guess both.

First of all I found it very unlike Russell to have the ball on their own 30 in a very hard fought game with under a minute to play and try to throw the ball. Result, interception and return to a spot that should have lost the game for them. I bet if they had it to do again they would have ran the ball and gone to overtime.

Second, Mason picks the ball off and returns to the Russell 13 with 20 some seconds left and at least 2 maybe all 3 timeouts remaining. What do they do? Shotgun--sack. Loss of 10+. Out of field goal range. I bet if they had it to do again they would have run the ball and got closer for a chip shot field goal.

Isn't it great to be a fan! Here I am at home on a Friday Night questioning the strategy of two programs that have won more games than I have seen!

Great game, I wish that I could have been there.

I understand .............we all do the same and that is what makes high school football great. With those two legensds though it woud be hard to 2nd guess them.

Wow sounds like a great game. I am impressed with Russell.

As was I, I ddin't think that they would get the "W" at Mason at all. Great job by a very good football team.

Just wait for the Rematch!

Yes! We do appreciate the game being played at Russell. Should be another good game.

Congratulation Russell. Probably one of the best teams in the state. With this come from behind win. I just hope you take it easy on little brother next Friday. Raceland has always respected russells program.:ylsuper:

Russell is rolling, look out 3A.

Congratulations Red Devils. Russell made the stops when they had to. We had several turnovers that were very costly. During the drive back Coach Bucanon stated several times that this was his teams best game to date. Russell once again came out and gave up two TD's before answering back.

I want to thank each and every Red Devil player for that win. I did not want to make that drive two times.

Drew Abrams 200 plus yards tonight.

Russell has several good backs that can get the job done but the cream of the crop rose to the top in tonights game as Mason Co. had no answer for Drew Abrams. He was the work horse as he had approx. 33 carries. He'll sleep good tonight.

Without a doubt one of the sloppiest and poorly played games I have watched. Both teams played hard but neither really well IMO. Way to many silly penalties and careless turnovers. Fumbles and dropped passes nearly doomed Russell.

Both teams were very physical on defense. #60 for Mason was very impressive tonight. Jones, Rice, Smith and Foster all had big hits for Russell. Russell played alot of Cover 2 giving up a little bit against the run but the secondary played much better.

Drew Abrams was a workhorse. Really ran hard in the second half. Keep it up.

Tyler Jones made the play of the game on the two point conversion. It appeared that Mason was going to run a pick route to get the RB in the flat. Jones stuffed him in the backfield and did not let him release. Cox was forced to look for other options and the pass was incomplete over the middle. Was the 2pt conversion the right call? I think it was. It was just well defended.

For one player that I won't name. Keep your head up. Instead of trying to make the spectacular play just make the smart play and everything will be just fine. Your team needs you.

Just wait for the Rematch!

If it happens it should be a good one between two pretty evenly matched teams.

Congratulations to Russell. A hard fought win. I honestly thought that Mason would spank ya. I was very wrong. I'll take some mustard greens with that crow now. Ivan you are always unpredictable and as always very dangerous. Again... congrats Fellers you deserved it.

Does Mason Co. not have a legit kicking game or was it just a do or die decision. Congrats to the Red Devils on the win and better luck to the Royals next time.

Did Mason still have that big cannon there?

I hated that thing....

Yes. They still have it.

They have enough a kicking game for extra points but not too much beyond that. I think it was a decision that trying to win it now was probably the best option.

A dramatic finish with Mason County going for 2 instead of playing for the second overtime. With the #1 seed in the district on the line no less. Man, I think i would have kicked it. I don't know. Tough call, if he makes the conversion he is a genius.

I have always heard at home go for the win if on the road go for the tie. I would like have seen this game maybe the rematch. A very good win for Russell see you guy next week.

With the Overtime format in Kentucky High School, you can't second guess the coaches going for the win at the end of regulation. The rematch in a few weeks will be a very good game and one I may try to get back to see.
