October 15, 200718 yr Nothing would surprise me...but I doubt any big name teams would try to lure Brooks away...they'd be looking for someone better (or at least perceived to be a better or hotter name on the coaching scene)...I expect Brooks to end his career at UK. I don't think he will leave, but if an AD wants to build a program from the ground up the right way, he would be the guy. They named the field at Oregon after him because of what he did for their program and has slowly done the same at Kentucky. If they keep winning, he will be one of the top 3 candidates for COY and you can bet there will be a few who come after him. However, with that being said, ... I think he retires from UK in the next 5-6 years.
October 15, 200718 yr Even if someone came calling, mitch went out on a limb so I think Rich would repay him with loyalty, JMO. Excellent point.
October 15, 200718 yr I'm glad we got him & even more glad that we let him do his job long enough to see results. If he was offered a job, I dont know if he would accept. question: would one of the "big" jobs offer this older coach a job? or would they be concerned with his age. Notre Dame signed Weis to a 10 yr deal. That would put Brooks at what age?? I'm sure some schools would offer but would the big few?
October 15, 200718 yr I think regardless of his age, Brooks retires a Wildcat. The guy loves his players and I feel like loyalty is very high on his list of virtues/reasons to stay at UK (which is why I've supported him through thick and thin). Also, UK does lose alot next year but with Dixon, Smith, and Locke in the backfield, that's going to take alot of stress/pressure off of Hartline/Fidler/Pulley.
October 15, 200718 yr Brooks isnt going anywhere, he's too old to start over, plain and simple I remember hearing that he was too old when he came to UK! I do agree that I don't think he is going anywhere. Why not enjoy the fruits of your labor after standing tall and taking the slings and arrows the past few years. He deserves to be the king for a while!!!
October 15, 200718 yr I think the real question is will Phillips still be around when Brooks decides to retire? With UK's success, some other schools will be calling him about being the head coach for them.

While thats true, I think Joker would be one of the top candidates for the job when Brooks did leave. Joker would probably be a head coach somewhere else at the time, but it would be coming back home for him and I am sure that is something he wants to do one day is coach UK. Kind of like how Huggins did with the K St. and WVU jobs. He got the chance to come home and took it. Joker has been here as a player and as a coach twice, I am sure he would come back as head coach no matter where he was.
October 16, 200718 yr Although I dont think Brooks is going anywhere, his age may not be a deathnail for other jobs. A case in point is the Ol' Ball Coach at South Carolina...I believe he was even older than Brooks when he was hired(could be wrong about Spurrier's age but they are close).
October 16, 200718 yr Brooks looks older! I think he looks younger than he did just 2 years ago. Maybe it's because he is smiling a lot more these days. Winning sure lifts the spirits!
October 16, 200718 yr Spurrier is 62 and Brooks is 66 Lou Holtz was hired at age 62 by USC, he's now 70
October 16, 200718 yr Spurrier is 62 and Brooks is 66 Lou Holtz was hired at age 62 by USC, he's now 70 I wouldnt think that South Carolina is a BIG TIME college football school but I do get your point. My point is that Brooks wont get many offers from schools that are better than UK b/c of his age and/or rebuilding.
October 16, 200718 yr Joker will stick around and wait for his chance to be the Head man at UK IMO I agree with your opinion.
