Courier-Journal Litkenhous Ratings

Featured Replies

It seems that it much much harder for team to move down that it is move up????

I was referring to Mayfield...not Beechwood. Mayfield is #1 in AP polls. But I also think that Beechwood is low in the rankings.

When did Mayfield move infront of Beechwood?

I think Dr. Lit gets pretty accurate as the season moves along....may not be there yet.

Does the ranking program factor in the score? Does it help if teams run the score up? In the ancient past you could tell a team was beaten soundly with a score of 28-34 to 7-14. Now days it seems plenty of teams are racking up scores much higher, sometimes I realize it may be tough to truly compete and not score (Butler - St. X). Years ago, during a JV game we were drumming another team, the coach turned the entire game over to the players - we changed positions, called plays - it was a blast, but we didn't score that much.

Sadly, I do think that today's statistical rating programs do factor in points scored. Naturally this would make it important to run up the score if ratings were important to you. But, I do realize that at times it is impossible not to score because you can't tell you freshmen not to play hard.

Sticking with what i know the most about, 3A:

- Russellville at #4?!?!?!??!

- Somerset at #3?!?!?!?

- Russell at #11, behind Moore?!?!? MOORE?!?!?!?!

- Speaking of Moore, they beat Etown and are still ranked behind them.

lets also throw in some interesting 2A observations:

Green County is not only the #2 2A team in the state, but they have a higher overall ranking than these well known teams: Beechwood, Mayfield (all of Class A for that matter), Danville, Belfry, Russell, Boyle County, Rockcastle County, Bullitt East, Hopkinsville, Madison Central, and Lafayette.

Green County is just outside the Top 20! If they were in 3A they would be #2, in 4A they would be ranked 5th, 5A they would enter at 6th, and 6A the Green County Dragons would be the 12th best big school team in the state.

In the words of Larry the Cable Guy, "I don't care who you are, thats funny!"

Bardstown is ahead of Danville, yet Danville just beat them...

I am a North Laurel fan, but when this 'system' shows Perry Central with 2 straight wins over district foes ranked well below North who is 0-6, I question it's validity.

Male over Highlands? You must be joking.

That is not that bad, Male is a darn good team and a traditional powerhouse same as Highlands and Male is 6A. Main thing to remember here is that these get better the more games there are, basically I ignore them all together till about this week each year, and they are better the more games are played.
