Brazil faces defending champ Germany for the title on Sunday." - ESPN.com The US women's coach devastated his team by making the worst decision in World Cup history - benching his starting goalie in the semifinals of the World Cup...

The PTI boys had the goalie debate last night, and both agreed the switch was a bad idea. Solo had performed great throughout the entier World Cup.
September 27, 200719 yr I agree, horrible decision to switch goalies. But it just didn't seem like to me that team USA had any emotion or want to be there at all. I think if you keep Solo in you still lose but by less. Also, Marta is unreal, definately the Ronaldino (sp.) of women's soccer.
September 27, 200719 yr Goalie doesnt matter much when you put up a big 0 on the other side of the board.
September 27, 200719 yr Goalie doesnt matter much when you put up a big 0 on the other side of the board. :thumb: I dont think the U.S. had given up a goal since they tied with North Korea in the first game of group play.
September 27, 200719 yr Brazil was the better team, the goalie switch did not make a difference in the outcome of this game.
September 27, 200719 yr Author The goalie switch might have affected the overall emotional state of the team. That is the way to take all the wind out of the sails. That switch alone could have ruined all chances they had.
September 27, 200719 yr The goalie switch might have affected the overall emotional state of the team. That is the way to take all the wind out of the sails. That switch alone could have ruined all chances they had. It did appear to have a negative effect on the entire team.
September 27, 200719 yr Author Probably the most boneheaded move I've ever seen. They were all out of whack - even scored an "own goal".
September 27, 200719 yr It did appear to have a negative effect on the entire team. Heck yes, how couldn't it? I'm no soccer buff like NoBiz (and others), but nil / nil would get you (eventually) into PK's...right? So that argument is a little watered down. Kudos the ESPN World Cup team because they were all over this move yesterday and the "potential" damage it could do to the team's chemistry and psyche. This goes down as one of the all-timers in terms of back-fired coaching moves. IMHO. disclaimer -- NOT a soccer guy in general.

September 27, 200719 yr I'm undecided if I'm impressed or disappointed by you... NoBiz and Habib have opened my mind to the Beautiful Game. Disclaimer: this statement is 100% false.
September 27, 200719 yr That's disappointing. The PTI boys had the goalie debate last night, and both agreed the switch was a bad idea. Solo had performed great throughout the entire World Cup.I believe they also said, that Scurry had never lost to the Brazilians. Sometimes, the other team is just playing better, at that time.
