Bad coaching decision for sure. Although IMO Solo does not make the difference yesterday either. Solo had not been stunning between the pipes in the group stages, bobbling a few and giving up a howler in the match against North Korea. The US team was built for a power/strength game and ran into a quick/skillful/technical team that took them apart.

 

Even at this level, confidence and the mental side of the game play a HUGE part, and giving up the soft early goal(especially an own goal) totally changes the entire match. The mountain to climb after that first and even second goal was going to be huge and the bigger/slower/more physical US side was going to have trouble keeping up with the quicker/smaller/more technical Brazil side 11v11 in the first place. The mountain became twice the size of Everest when Boxx was sent off in extra time at the end of the first half, which to be honest was a terrible decision. In the end, this is probably a good thing to happen to the Women's team and hopefully they will start looking for a greater balance of skillful more technical players to go along with their strong power players. Right now the balance is too tilted toward physicality than technical ability.

I actually think that he will play Solo, in an olive branch offer. Only problem is that it might be his last lineup card, so he may have different thoughts...

He should probably start the 3rd string goalie and be done with it. I really wonder what happened to cause him to start the 36-year old goaltender in the semifinals of the World Cup. Solo had went 300 minutes without giving up a goal.
