Was it the '94 State Game the last time these two teams met up? That is my last memory of BG and boy it is not a pretty one.:irked:

The Highlands/Bowling Green potential match up in the state finals looks to be the best of the six final games, in my opinion.

They actually met in 95 with HHS scoring early in the fourth quarter but missed a 2 pt conversion to tie the game. After that it was all BGHS and they won by a few TD's.

Just curious if HHS has faced any 6'6'' wideouts with great speed and leaping ability like BGHS has. Besides pressuring the quarterback how do you contain a weapon like that at the highschool level? Your average highschool cornerback is usually about 5'9'' and a 165 pounds soaking wet. The poor kid who had the assignment last week was about a 5'6'' freshman and needless to say he had a long night. I think BGHS is more dangerous than in years past due their much improved passing game. They also have a 6'5'' division 1 TE and several other excellent wideouts to throw to. Add their usuall stable of talented running backs and that makes a scary package to stop.

Trotwood receivers went 6'6", 6'2", 6'1" and not sure about the other cat but he's at least 6'2"...

HHS played Trotwood Madison in the Kirk Herbstreit Ohio Vs. USA at UC's Nippert stadium and Trotwood had 3 recievers who were all very good. I believe at least one of them was 6'6" plus and could run. At least 2 of them are Div 1 prospects or already committed to a Div 1 school. I have not seen Bowling Green play, but HHS played against some very good talent top to bottom in that game and came out with a win.

The Bird's played Trotwood-Madison and they had a reciever that has already signed with Purdue. Austin Collinsworth had the honor of covering this young man and he did an excellent job. I think that Austin has done a great job playing corner for the Bird's considering he has alway's been a lb'er in the past. Austin(A. C. aka.. The Cooler) will be up for the challenge. He's 6'1" and weigh's 180 lbs. and run's pretty well.

I agree, I was very impressed with Austin's coverage in the Trotwood game along with the other DB's. Not to mention Austin will slobbernock you in a second if you extend your arms.

 

This would be an ideal Championship game but lets not count our chickens just yet, lets beat Hopkinsville and continue the winning streak.

I'm going with Highlands. Every year I hear that this is Bowling Greens' year and then something happens in the play-offs and it ends early for them. I hope this is the year that Bowling Green makes it to the second Friday in December and I'm betting that Highlands will meet them there.

 

I totally agreee because before BG can play Highlands in the finals they may have to come to Rash Stadium and beat one of the best defenses in the state. Not knocking anybody but before you can predict a score it has to be scheduled and right now there are several variables left for that to happen. When it comes to the playoffs too you never know how it will play out. Hopefully Owensboro can play BG and Highlands. But there alot of football left to play and I look forward to seeing how it all plays out for everyone. Boone Co. will be a good test for Owensboro this weekend.

I'm not sure why these 2 are being compared so early. The BG folks are not thinking about state championship right now...just winning the next game. It's very obvious from these and previous posts that BG doesn't get much respect from the Northern Ky fans. That's okay. BG did lose the last 2 years at Papa Johns, but they did MAKE IT TO THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP ! After losing 30 seniors from last year, most Purple fans are thrilled with the Purple's success so far this year.

As to jbckentucky's comments, it's a shame you have such a low opinion of BG's depth at the defensive positions and inability to stop the run. Yes, they gave up a lot of rushing yards to Boyle, but it was the opening game of the season and there were 7 starters on D lost from last year. As far as the Trinity game, they are averaging 42 points per game and scored about that (39) on BG. (one of which was in the last 2 minutes as our defense wore down) Trinity is an OUTSTANDING team and I am very proud of how our defense played against such a quality opponent. From your comments (and you've seen BG play) it sounds like HHS has the upper hand ....depth, defensive quickness, ability to rack up the rushing yards.

Thanks Rockpride for your vote of confidence. The BG fans and parents were soooo impressed by your team and hospitality during our visit to Trinity.

There's still a lot of football to be played and yes, it would be great to reach state for the 3rd year in a row. But for now, this purple fan is focusing on the game tomorrow night!

Thanx for the reminder, JD! I had forgotten that Coach Goble was at Lloyd before he went to Christian Co...was he an assistant at Lloyd about the same time I was playing at BGHS (1974-76)?

wcj, you and I are on the same page! It's a long and brutal path to Papa John's in December! Add to our fourth round this year the very real possibility of renewing an old and heated rivalry like BGHS/Owensboro or BGHS/Hoptown, and you have the recipe for incredible plays and huge emotional drains!!:eek: And we face the possibility of playing a Mark Brown-coached John Hardin team the week before! I've said all along that the Purples need to overlook no one in so many words!

 

I'm sure that the guys, if the opportunity presents itself, would be honored to do battle with the Red Devils once again at The Dungeon!

Purplehaze, He was an assistant under Roy Lucas Senior along with Ray and Boyd Phillips who were also assistant coaches. Mr Goble was also the assistant baseball coach and when I was in his eigth grade science class he made me a manager of the baseball team and that is where I decided to play football. I really liked Coach Goble and I would like to see him again and thought if his son was coaching at BG he maybe at Highlands tomorrow. I think Coach Goble left in 1972, I had him for 5 years 8th grade thru senior. JD

Yeah Purplehaze I remember all of those battles with the purples although I went to Apollo many moons ago I loved to watch OHS football they were always good as is BG. Good Luck tonight as well and thank because I think we may need a little help sat. at Boone Co. :devil:
