OK State Coach Goes Off on Writer

Once I can actually get a chance to read the original article, as well as the link posted to the site about two hours ago where the writer defends the accuracy of her information, I'll have more comment about it.

I will say this: While you want your coach defending his players, at the same token let's not act like college athletes should somehow be immune from criticism. By the nature of their position as high-profile athletes, they are public figures, after all.

Criticize him for his inability to throw the out pattern. Criticize him for fumbling the snap. Criticize him for poor leadership (and you had better be able to back it up).

Don't criticize him for being soft because you saw him with his mom after a game. Don't say "if you believe the rumors and the rumblings...." Dont' say "Reid considered transferring because he had to compete for the spot." Don't say "there's something to be said for not being a malcontent" and then insinuate that he's soft because he's not a malcontent. Lastly, don't insinuate that the kid's own coaching staff is doubting his toughness . If you don't have the guts to quote a coach, don't allude to it. Period.

Hack job by a hack writer.

Her article was dispicable and I'm glad the coach stood up for what be believed to be the right thing. I saw a video of an interview with her after Gundy's press conference and I dislike her even more than I did after I read her article.

Instead of being sorry for attacking a kid, she is taking a stand that she was correct. Lord knows, I have been wrong many times and I have more respect for people who say "you know, I was wrong and I am sorry". This young woman has no class.:irked:

Her reply is also on you tube.

I loved seeing that from the coach! I think any player would love seeing a coach stick up for them. It really does show that the coach really does care for his players...I know I think its stupid how the media is blasting the coach for this. I know I read an article by Forde and he was blasting the coach for this too...

I commend the coach for sticking up for his player, but I think he went a little overboard.

In true idiot fashion, Doyel was defending her today, and said the coach was out of line.

I agree with the coach completely, but I do have a question....Does this help OKState recruiting at all?

Depends on how you look at it. As a parent, I see it as someone that will go to bat for my son, as long as my son is going about things the right way. Now, if he hasn't portrayed that in the past and it is now evident, than I say yes it will help.

If every person he talks to already knows that about him, I don't seeing it help so much.

To me, it's much, much deeper than defending the kid to a reporter. The biggest battle in coaching is having your kids buy in to what your selling. If I'm that kid or any potential recruit...SOLD!!!

Figure you to say this...:p:lol::lol::lol:
Reporters and columnists are paid and expected to report accurately. If the columnist did so, and I have no way of knowing how accurate she is in this matter, she is doing her job.

Westy, that article was weak (unprofessional, steeped with low-blows and unsubstantiated rumors), I'm truly shocked that you would defend it.

Thanks for that link Sticky. Nice to see the vast majority of those posts are well thought out and intelligent. Not the drooling rambling of uninformed goons, but intelligent people making good points as to why here article was embarrassing to her profession.

I believe they deleted anything too colorful. I saw one cat say, "My other post was deleted so..."

Got a kick out of some of these:

Wow. I’m usually not one for a person to lose their job. But…

I am truly impressed that the paper has decided to “back you up” on your editorial(sports column). What is even more impressive is the fact that many advertising dollars and subscriptions will be lost as a result of the editor’s poor judgement and the paper’s decision to keep you employed, regardless of your lack of talent. Usually money talks, but apparently in your case….

Congratulations. You made the top 10 most viewed videos on YouTube.

I'm not necessarily defending the column ... I'm defending her right to write it, provided it's accurate.

And I'm sure the thoughts of getting on here just to argue with everyone else on this board never even entered your mind?:argue:
