Pikeville played their hearts out in this ballgame, but ended up coming up short against a bigger and better team. Pikeville fumbled the ball 7 times and lost 3 or 4 of them I believe, and botched a couple of scoring chances because of the turnovers. Had Pikeville put a couple of those in the endzone, their defense played well enough to win the game, IMO.

 

In the second half, Lexington Catholics' numbers (Catholic dressed 98, Pikeville might have had 35-40) defenitely wore down the Panthers who have a high number of kids playing both ways. But a heck of an effort by the Panthers to keep the game competitive into the second half. If a couple of early breaks go the way of the Panthers this game could have been close into the 4th quarter.

 

Lexington Catholic has a very potent passing game and a good overall team speed and talent. They are a good team and will do nice things later in the year. But this Pikeville team will learn from this game and become a better team for it. This type of challenge will do a whole lot for them when it comes time to play Belfry and on into the playoffs.

Pikeville has the Defense to bring home their 4th state title this year imo but the offense is another story.

this game can only make Pikeville better and they will be tough come playoff time in 1A.

This game although the score is a little lopsided, will just make Pikeville better. You have to admire a 1A school that will take on arguable the best 4A team this state has to offer. 2. Conversely, LexCath dropped two sure TD passes, and killed themselves all night with holding penalties. The score could have been much worse.

 

3. Each time I watch Daniel Harmon I become more and more impressed. The kid doesn't run his mouth and trash talk, all he does is play blue collar football.

 

4. NO TEAM IN 1A IS AS ATHLETICALLY GIFTED AS PIKEVILLE! But, it takes more than athletes to win a state title.

He had one nice run... didn't have alot of carries. As soon as the ball w \as snapped LexCath was already hitting the fullback, he didn't have much of a chance to make any plays.

Beating Danville was a pretty big win for Frankfort last year....Congrats to Catholic for taking care of business.

Pikeville lost 3 fumbles deep in LC territory, including 1 that was returned for a TD with a few seconds left in the first half...17-0 LC should have been 10-7 LC or maybe even 14-10 Pikeville...Pikeville lost a fumble inside the LC 7 earlier in the half...

 

In addition to the above, Pikeville turned it over on downs deep in LC territory twice...once after a Pikeville TD was called back on a terrible call 20 yards behind the play...

 

Pikeville OUTRUSHED LC 269-174...Daniel Harmon had 188 yards on 16 carries...LC outgained Pikeville in total yards only 386-321...

 

LC starters in till the end (what's up with that)...and marched down the field in the last 4 minutes with the first team in to punch one in with a minute to go...

 

Anyways, Pikeville probably wouldn't beat LC 1 out of 10...and it's obvious why...but...a lot of positives for Pikeville in this one...
