September 6, 200719 yr I was just sitting here thinking, is Colt Brennan a really, really good QB or is he just a product of the sling-it-everywhere-at-any-time offense? Personally, I think he is pretty good, but I don't think he would put up those kinds of numbers in the SEC, Big 10, Big 12, or the other "MAJOR" conferences.
September 6, 200719 yr Author I would lean more towards he was a good quarterback if it wasn't for Timmy Chang a few years ago. He set the alltime yardage record but what is he doing now?
September 6, 200719 yr It almost has to be a little of both. Hawaii, and their system, have produced some QBs with amazing numbers. However, for what Brennan is doing, you have to have a pretty nice skill set.

However, for what Brennan is doing, you have to have a pretty nice skill set. I think it also depends on what would define a great QB for you...if they have to go on to NFL success, then who knows. But, if you're just looking for a successful college QB, then Brennan, at the least, is a pretty darn good one. I'm like you...even in a pass-happy offense, you have to be pretty good to put up numbers like he does. Tim Couch, for example, was a great college QB, but he bombed in the NFL...if people had known how he'd turn out, I wonder how they would have rated him in college.
September 6, 200719 yr I think he is an above average college QB but he is most definitely a product of his system. If you took any of the top QB's in the nation(Brohm, Booty, Woodson, Henne, Ryan, McCoy, Flynn etc) and put them at Hawaii they would all strive in the system much better than Brennan.

I don't know if I'd say "much" better. Brennan seems to have a good set of eyes, a good arm, and a fair head on his shoulders. Not 'good' as in 'good enough', but GOOD. But I really haven't seen Hawaii play that much, so I don't know if my limited views are skewed, but looking at his numbers I doubt it.

September 6, 200719 yr I won't say much better, but I will say better. Better than 54 TD's or whatever he had last year??? I don't know about that. Someone brought up Chang. Chang was about 5'10". Brennan is, I believe, 6'4". That's NFL size.

Like I said, he's definitely an above average QB but there are undeniably better QB's out there in the country and I think they would put up better numbers in that system. Not by much but I do think that they would.
September 6, 200719 yr He's a very good quarterback for that system. I can't say that an outstanding QB from another D-1 college could come into Hawaii and do what Colt does, but I think he would be merely mediocre at another D-1 school.
