August 8, 200719 yr Any team other than the Blue Jays, I'd take ARod's side on this one as they threw at him yesterday, but after the crap he pulled earlier this year, I hope they try to hit him every time he comes up. One moment I think we are in-step in most cases and then I read this. Jeez... Trying to distract a fielder from catching a ball is part of the game...watch a runner slow down to purposefully get in the eye-line of a defender. Same church, different pew. 3rd baseman made a bonehead play; end of story. That being said, I have no problem with a Blue Jay pitcher making Alex uncomfortable in the box to stand up for his "embarrassed" third-baseman. Fine. Once. The 2nd time was over-kill and The Rocket stood up for his guy. Still fine. I'm with Sticky (et al) on this one. Defending your team-mate with one in the ribs / buttocks is part of the game. Above the numbers and it is a suspendable offense (or worse)...in my opinion. I remember well a guy wiping me out at 2nd breaking up a DP with his spikes above my knee. Next time up he caught heat in the ribs. Message sent. I never would have asked him to do that, but I did acknowledge it after the inning in the dugout with a silent glove slap on the back-side. It's how the game should be played, IMO.

What brawl? I don't even know if you could call it a fight. These bench clearing antics in the MLB are more likely to cause injury.

There was more going on during the Titans 'fight' than there was with the Yankees/Jays. There's no disputing that. Answer me this, what's worse fighting with your teammates or fighting the other team, in retaliation?

If any pitcher tried to "hurt" someone on the other team then they should be suspended. Retaliation has went to far in baseball. Yes it may be sticking up for your teammates but really, where do you draw the line? When a ball slips and cracks someone in the head, or when you break a wrist or what? Pitchers know where they're going to hit a player and hitting players in the knee's, and other places to that nature is an absolute joke and they should be punished. Retaliation can cost someone a game, the playoffs or even someone's career. Get over it and play the game.
August 8, 200719 yr Why did Clemons wait until the 7th inning and pick this particular batter? The only reason i can think of, he waited until after the Yanks had a pretty good lead and it was late enough to where they could put in the bullpen.

I was only assuming he was getting tired. He may have felt fine and like someone else said, after they got the lead he knew he could allow a baserunner to reach base. I talked to HSSB, I stated many times that I didn't have a problem with VY letting a young player know that cheap shots on teammates in practice is not acceptable. My problem with Vy was that the way he handled it was not becoming of a team leader, IMO. I also said that if he would've grabbed him by his facemask or shoulder pads and told him not to do it again, harshly, I wouldn't have had a problem with it. However, he didn't. He slapped him in the mouth like he was his child. What Clemens did, IMO, is exactly what a leader does and how he handles it. The last thing you want is for a teammate to get ticked off because he wasn't stood up for. You also don't want someone to throw at a guys head or knees. Or continue to allow a team to throw at your best player... And again, this isn't acceptable at any level but MLB, IMO... I'm ok if you guys don't agree...
