I get so frustrated with the comments like, "We just have 30-40 kids dress. You all have like 60. If you can't beat a little (insert whatever class SHS is playing that year), you should be ashamed." Or something like that.

Fellas, it's still 11 v. 11. No matter how you look at it.

And speaking of traveling distances, Somerset didn't think twice before going to the Mountain district a couple of years ago (for "better" restaurants, I think was part of the justification). So why the woes now? People just skirt around the issues, no matter what school they are from. Just play the game.

Somerset SHOULD have a better tradition, more trophies, etc. than BOTH Southwestern and Pulaski, as they have played football more years than those two schools combined! Jumpers, give them a chance to catch up.

And overall success shouldn't be measured in trophies and state championship appearances. Don't get me wrong, what kid or coach wouldn't want to play on the carpet. But in the past 12-13 years, how many kids has Somerset (or Pulaski) (heck, combine them if you want!) sent to the next level to continue their education and oh yeah, to play football? Just wondering. Because to me, that should be part of the overall success of your team. Not just wins and losses.

Looking forward to tonight. It's going to be hot, but it's going to be fun!!

See you later Kemo and Bucknut!!

Maybe off the subject, but with Somerset's success, why don't more of their kids go on to play college football?

Was reading in todays newspaper that the admission prices are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for elementary through college students.

Ok sure you all won the game last year but only by 7 points! Quite frankly we should've beaten you all! However, since SW did win but only by 7, I see that as a dissapointment for you all being as you all had all those "athletes" last year and about 60 more kids than we do, shouldn't you all have blown the poor little city school out of the water? Lets talk about success now! Congrats you all won a District Championship! Lets see, when was the last one you all won one within the last realignment? Now For us, Over the past 4 years Somerset went 21-3 with 3 district championships and 2 regional championships! I prefer to look at overall success than one little game that only means bragging rights and a cool little trophy that says Ray Correll Bowl champion! Thats just a city trophy, we've got the state ones!

EDIT:

Sorry Bucknut and sorry if I make SWHS fans mad with this but......

Until last year SW was kinda similar to the "Ohio State" of the John Cooper Era (I am no where near saying SW is like OSU in all aspects). Great teams, great coaches and with talented teams but couldn't win the big game, for what ever reason. Hopefully those times have changed for SW not so much for OSU.. Sorry again Bucknut :)

As far as the smaller school argument sorry but.......

What the heck are you Talking about?

Since the John Cooper era.

OHIO ST has been to two Natl Champ. Games and won one.

Give me a break!

Lets get back to the Ray Correll Bowl.:fight:

Easy... I said of the John Cooper era but anyway and I really don't know what I'm talking about willis.

Saw where the TEMP is like 102 in Somerset! Thats crazy! I hope the players drank enough water and gatorade this week.

Any chance I can get the games on the radio up North? Maybe webcast?

As far as the size issue goes it is true that you only play 11 on 11 at a time but it usually makes it easier when you have 60-70 to pick that 11 from vs. having 30-40. Football also has offense, defense and special teams. Bigger schools don't just play 11, a lot of them don't have to play anyone both ways, so you're really talking about more like 25 on 15. Football is a numbers sport the size obviously does make a difference--otherwise why class football when all the other sports don't? Even Coach Hines talked about size--did anyone catch his quote from the local paper about Somerset? Here it is:

“Somerset is just a little ole’ single-A team and they are not part of our district,” Hines remarked. “It is an exciting game, obviously our kids want to play Somerset and it will be a fun game, but once it is all over it really doesn’t mean anything to either one of the teams down the road.”

He might want to keep in mind next time that that "little ole single-A team" is 5-1 against his Maroons. Somerset has been able to more than hold its own against its larger neighbors. Good Luck to the Jumpers and the Warriors tonight and may all 4 teams have an injury free game!

You can catch webcast on WRVK. Rocks Radio Station

We are not that sophisticated at the "Big C"

I am not an expert, but I have never heard Danville of Mayfield or Corbin, make that small school/ low numbers excuse. As far as I know they don't even bring it up. Danville is a good example because they play Boyle (thee big school) on a yearly basis, so....

I don't think anyone was trying to make an excuse about Somerset because of their numbers. On the contrary I was pointing out that although the county schools have a large size advantage Somerset has more than held their own in both series. SHS is 5-5 against SW and 12-5 against PC. They've had far more success than the numbers would dictate.

Who from the Somerset administration is using the numbers as an excuse. No one that I've heard!!! As to AverageJoesGym statements, how can you argue with them. Please guys give me a break saying that numbers don't mean anything in football. Why do we even have a class system then? When Somerset scrimmaged North Laurel they dressed 70-80 players and had a whole different offensive and defensive unit- but hey numbers don't mean squat!

This thread is done.
