where is the love for western..

they lost a lot in the senior class...but this was the first off season ever they lifted weights, have had 80plus kids at practice, and Coach Doug Preston is now in his second year, of installing a very high powered offense.

It is a big move up for Western so we are in wait and see mode.

You (the staff) do a fine job and everything but... North Bullitt above Rockcastle? I guess it was because of the Rock's losses. I tell you what 4A is going to be some exciting football!!!

Rock will never be down, too good of coaching staff. No way North Bullitt is better than the Rock.

Fairdale looks to have a good football team this year

North may or may not be better, but they are talented and return a lot of starters. I think they have 6 or 7 kids that have started 22 or more varsity games. Can't beat experience when building a good team.

The Bobcats were Sophomore heavy last year. They have ALL their skill position starters back. They return a four-year starting Sr. QB Kyle Nelson; TR Christopher (SR) and Spencer Greer (JR) running backs. Shawnta Zachary at WR (JR); Matt Simpson FB (JR); K/P Monte Merrick (JR), 2007 All-State Hon. Mention leads special teams; coming off two losses to Rockcastle last year. Bell was in both games and had chance to win the first game to set home field advantage for later playoff when a last minute INT ended their game-winning drive in the red zone. This year Bell will be tough having only three home games. Road games will make them ready for playoffs. Rockcastle will have to come to Log Mountain this year. Rock will always give Bell a tough game, but Bell does not have to go up against the huge line that Rock has had the past two years. Add to the Bobcat mix some sophomores and freshman with size, strength, and speed in the line. Dominique Parton, (FR) RB, could also be a factor down the road. I like the Bobcats chances in the new 4-A. Rock, Boyle, Lex Catholic and Bell are all in same region this year...only one moves on. Winner of this region will be favored most likely to win it all on the carpet.

Thank you TL. You have described a very tough region - should be some exciting football. I'll follow your progress on BGP this season.

You are exactly right, T2P. Though other teams may have more tradition, you really have to look at the quality players that remain behind. You shouldn't rank teams on tradition.

North Bullitt will definitely be a team that I keep my eyes and ears open for this year. :thumb:

What is the Low down on Franklin County? Can they do anything with out Ammons? Can they get past Harrison? Can they really compete with the Traditional powers in the play offs?

Past seasons are not going to merit them many pre-season rankings, but I believe by season's end there will be some talk of Knox Central. They've shown steady improvement each year since Wayne Mills took over and this year could be the big breakout for them. Lots of returning starters and new talent available along with a winning attittude. However, as I've said many times, being in the same district as Rock and Bell means having to go far beyond being just good to make waves.

Why shouldn't you rank teams on tradition? Year in and year out, the same teams are always in the hunt for a state title. Let a team prove they deserve to be ranked high, but don't give it to them. Teams with tradition have proved in the past that they deserve to be there.

They should have beaten Lexington Catholic last year in the playoffs. They are a team with a lot of experience and they will be pretty good.

You should rank the teams based on what each has for the current year. Yes, tradition counts in many ways and cannot be dismissed altogether, but why shouldn't every team have to have stats to back it up, not just what other people did last year or five years ago?

If we ranked on tradition, Bellevue would be in the top 10 every year along with Murray, Paris, Lafayette, and Franklin-Simpson.

If you get a chance to see North Bullitt play this year, check out their defensive tackle #67. Jimmy Blandford 6'3" 275 lbs. Has played middle LBer the past two years. He will absolutely dominate on the LOS. He has received a ton of mail from lot of big schools. Was invited to spring games at U of L, Tennessee, and Mississippi this year. Coaches haven't pushed his name much because he wasn't concentrating on academics the way they wanted. Just another piece to add to North's puzzle.
