This is part of the problem. I agree about disliking LaRussa. I have blasted him in past threads. Said he got outmanaged by Phil Garner in the NLCS a few years ago. But I can get past that to make an observation and I agree with what LaRussa did. There are some who can't get past the angel image of Pujols and their hatred of Larussa to see the big picture. If Pujols had said those things about Whitey Herzog not playing him, everyone would have the same stance as I. Because it's the most hated manager in baseball, they are taking Pujols' side. It's simply a side I don't agree with.

Any player who is selected, wants to play....that is the competitive nature and mindset, anyone would have.

 

This would be a perfect time, to implement the following....All-Star DH. I would propose the following:

 

Each team would have DH, regardless of NL/AL city. The DH is an extra batting position (or can be for pitcher) only. Another DH can enter the game, for a defensive position, but would still bat in the same DH position.

 

A player who was designated as a DH, could could then enter the game defensively for another player but would still bat in the same slot. A new player, would then be inserted into the batting lineup and would hit, where the defensive player did...(for example) #7 hole is DH. In the 6th inning, DH goes in for 3rd basemen, who is hitting in the #8 hole. DH remains in #7 batting spot but plays 3rd. A new player, not in the game, would then bat in the #8 hole and would assume DH role.

I completely agree. Tradition is for the World Series. I don't want to see a pitcher bat in the all star game. It's pointless.

Pujols was in the right. Lets try out this 2 outs bases loaded and home field advantage for the World Series hanging in the balance. You have 1 choice to make do I bat Albert Pujols or Aaron Rowand.

 

Obvious choice would be Pujols but this year Rowand is doing just as good and he has done better with the bases loaded this year going 4-7 while Pujols has went 2-5. May not be the guy you want up there but in the end he was the right choice based on his stats for this year.

He is one of the more recognized players in the game, the Cardinals are the defending champions and while they have struggled for the 1st half of the season, he should have at least gotten in the game at some point.

 

With that said, I'm not shedding any tears for ANYONE associated with the Cardinals organization. :lol:

Your basing your dislike for Pujolis on two statements that many agree with. That's logical.

I know he married a woman with a child who had Down's Syndrome and adopted her. I know they set up a foundation for it. I know that he and his wife are Christians. Again, get past that and I see a troubling pattern when it comes to his train of thought. I find it interesting that last year, his trainer was linked to supplying HGH and this year he in the worst HR slump of his career.

Again, two comments don't make up a troubling pattern.

First, Albert spouted off about losing the MVP to Ryan Howard last year. Now, he's spouting off about not getting to play in the All-Star Game.

From the games I have watched in the past, there is usually a player or pitcher who is held out in case the game goes to extra innings (except for the game in Milwaukee that ended in a tie). He was there in the first place because of his manager, so I don't know why he is angry at him. Get past his wife and her child, and there isn't much to salute Albert the person. With his whining about him, he should opt out and sign with the Yankees. He'd be a good fit in that clubhouse.

 

Pujols is right about what he said, you cannot say that if you were playing high school baseball and it was the all-star game and your high school coach was the coach of the all-star game you wouldn't be way upset if you didn't get in the game. And I would guarantee that you would be telling people how upset you were. Simple as that, we all would do the same Pujols did, nothing wrong with that.

No one blamed the managers, to my knowledge anyway. They blamed Bud Selig. and both teams had players left they just didn't have any pitchers left to pitch the game.

The managers took heat because they used all of their pitchers early and didn't keep back anyone for extra innings. They were crucified for this.
