July 22, 200719 yr Our pitcher that was in that next inning hit the next guy. Oops. I missed that. My belief still stands though that they would be much better if they would occasionally dust batters. When did you ever see Milton throw inside? He could give up 5 dingers and still pitch middle-out.
July 22, 200719 yr It always been that why I don't know why. My guess is we have a lot of young guys and guys that aren't very confident in their stuff and they don't feel they can throw inside successfully. Harang pitches inside but thats because he has good stuff and can locate it. Thats JMO I don't see any other logical reason for it.
July 22, 200719 yr I've been harping on this for the last couple of years but now its to the point of being sad. The Reds NEVER throw inside in order to get batters off the plate. That's a problem with either the coach or the intenstinal fortitude of the individual on the hill. Now, though, the situation SCREAMS for a beanball. Freel takes Benitez deep . Benitez, the following game, nails Freel on the wrist sending an obvious message. Reds are getting their tail kicked last night in the 8th and no one thinks to back up Freel? Very, very disappointing. I can't even recall the last Reds' pitcher to throw inside. It all has to come down to coaching.

July 22, 200719 yr I can't even recall the last Reds' pitcher to throw inside. It all has to come down to coaching.I disagree. Dick Pole has always been one to instruct pitchers to throw in to set the batter up. I think the mental pschye of the Reds pitchers borders that of a sixth grade girls' hopscotch team. Other than Harang, there is no one who can pitch out of a jam, pitch from behind, pitch inside, etc. Blaming Dick Pole for their mental shortcomings is like blaming the clerk at the convenience store for gas being over $3 a gallon.
July 22, 200719 yr I don't follow. You like him or not? I was just being A TAD sarcastic. That's all. :thumb:

July 22, 200719 yr Dunn told Aaron Boone on Thursday that he expects to be traded. I like Dunn a lot, but I think it is in the best interest to trade him. I just dont think there is a player worth trading for. If they end up trading him or another role player they must get good middle relief pitching.
