July 6, 200719 yr I only take credit for the good things my kids do. All blame goes to their mother. BTW, I'm probably going to need a place to sleep tonight... You sound like my ex-husband! Henry, I'll always look back and wonder if I could have done something differently and better. Everyone has to handle their situation the best they can, and I don't feel that because a child has problems it's necessarily the fault of the parent pursuing their career. If your beef with the Gore's is that they pursued their ambitions, I guess every working parent is somehow guilty of selfishness.

I guess what I am say is that sometimes "their career" doesn't always work well with the children. When you have children you adjust. Sometimes that means your lifes ambitions must change also depending on issues that come along with raising children. I made a decision to stay home and raise the kids. Yea the double income would have been nice, could have done alot more things, but I look back and have zero regrets. I would do it exactly the same. Now if L'neck and I had divorced, I would have gotten into a field where I could still spend as much time with my children, for example; teaching so we could be on the same schedule.

As I said, we all have to make our own decisions. And some people are called to "public service" (if that's what you can call today's politics ) Teaching your kids to sacrifice for the greater good can be a good thing as well. I don't think that a parent has to sacrifice themselves to be the best parent.

July 6, 200719 yr I guess we'll just have to agree that we disagree on that point.:thumb: I don't understand your point? Are families that have two working parents somehow failing their children? Are single parents who have a corporate career somehow failing their children? Are families who can't afford to only have one parent work somehow failing their children? If the option for a parent arises to advance in their career and better provide financially for their family failing their children if it involves more work? What are you saying? The only way to be a good parent is to sacrifice their own goals to put the kids first? As to politics, are you saying that it's not a service to their country? Are you saying that if a person is in politics they shouldn't seek to further their career if they have children?

What I am saying IF you have a child that is going astray (for the lack of a better word) as the Gore's son seem's to have done for sometime now, then yes you sacrifice for the good of that child. Hey, if all is rosey and the kids are great and both parents work, single parent works, and or you want to better your career, more power to ya.

Many times these "rescues" are nothing more than enabling. Sometimes the best thing you can do for a child is to cut them loose and see if they fall hard enough to bring tears to their eyes. Much easier said than done.

July 6, 200719 yr He needs to get a job with his dad working on global warming, maybe he can grow better weed.
July 9, 200719 yr The Gores are really into this "green" thing. AG3's sis showed up to bail him out and brought 20 Gs in cash.

I've got zero clue as to whether Big Al spend much time with Little Al in the formative years. But my guess, if I had to guess, is that Big Al probably wasn't around home all that much during those years. And while I appreciate Big Al's committment to public service, as a father his first responsibility is to raise his son. I know two people whom seriously considered running for Congress because they were told by political advisors that the "time was right". They both decided not to do it because both had young sons and the "time was right" to be around the home and properly father them, as opposed to being away from home all of the time. I gained even more respect for them. I'm not bashing Big Al for not properly raising Little Al as I have no idea if that was the case. But I have to tell you, I know a lot of business owners and law partners that didn't take the time to spend with their sons as they were growing up, and they just can't understand why those sons have turned into troubled young adults.
July 9, 200719 yr I haven't read any of the previous posts on this thread but I don't care about Al Gore 's kid. That is his family's business, not ours. I don't care what he did as I don't care what the Bush's kids do. Just because someone's kid does something does not show bad upbringing or anything against the family, or the politician themselves. It would not prevent me from voting for anyone who's kid(s) get in trouble.
