July 6, 200719 yr I'll agree with your first two sentences, Henry, but I've think we've all seen kids who were raised right do dumb things. As HHSdad said, some are just wired different. You are right on that one. But if I had a child with problems dating back as far as his, or any type of problems as his, the last thing I would have done was pursue a "public" career. What is more important, your own selfish ambitions or your childs well being and future?
July 6, 200719 yr I would dare to say that for every time he got caught , he has done the crime 10 times. He has learned nothing from his past mistakes. What will it take.......?
July 6, 200719 yr Some people are amazing..no matter what people do they want them to "just get help". Unless they hit someone in their family head on in a car going 100mph while high on drugs, then all of the sudden they want them prosecuted to the fullest!!. You can not help everyone, sometimes they have to be helped by being placed in a small concrete cell with all their stuff "daddy" has given them taken away. But that's just my opinion..what do I know..:irked:
July 6, 200719 yr Everyone seems to be assuming that the Gores pursued their own ambitions while their son foundered. I don't think any of us know that definitely. But, of course, it must be so, because AIII's father and mother are a joke among some sets. To me, that's blaming the parents. Henry, believe me, even kids who are great kids can make some terribly horrible decisions. If the Gore's were so inattentive as parents, how did they manage to raise their daughters so well? I'm not saying "just get him help". I'm not saying he isn't responsible for his actions. I'm saying that this isn't a funny story, one to joke about. It could happen to any family. I think it's pretty nasty to make jokes about a young man's obvious problems, no matter who his parents are.

Not everyone is perfect and not everyone's child is perfect but just because he, and others like him, are the children of famous people, that doesn't mean that they don't deserve the same consideration as I feel a lot of people would want for their own children.
July 6, 200719 yr I keep telling you THIS is the one to go with. It captures the real Pillary. Just cause I really like you, I am going to act like I never saw this post:D

Heck my sons are night and day. The Gore's son obviously needed more help. Maybe if the Gore's weren't so busy trying to save the world and concentrated on their son more, he would be better off. I'm not saying it would have been, but as a parent I would want to do everything I could to help my child. The world can wait. I wouldn't want to be Al and Tipper sitting there oneday thinking "heck if we just hadn't been flying all around the world and had stayed home and paid more attention to our boy, maybe our son would have been better off."

Yet, in the article I referenced above, it clearly states: In April 1989, Gore was the victim of a near-fatal car accident while attending a Baltimore Orioles baseball game in Baltimore, Maryland. As a result of the accident, doctors were forced to remove approximately 60% of his spleen. He also sustained a concussion and fractures to a leg and a rib, as well as bruises to the lung, kidney, and pancreas. His father chose to stay near him during the recovery, bypassing a possible presidential run in 1992. I don't get the impression that the Gore's were inattentive parents. I get the impression that this child is one that, no matter who his parents may have been, would have still had more than the "normal" problems.

You can speculate until the cows come home but no one would really know this and nor should they.

You mean he actually weighed the decision and made a "Choice". What parent wouldn't stay by their child. Obviously the child needed his parents there more.

Henry, many of us are working parents. Many of us have had to make difficult choices in our careers and children's lives that may have taken us away from our children for a time. Does that mean that because our children may have made horrendous mistakes, that we made the wrong choices? Should we have given up our careers?

If it means changing jobs, so be it. At the end of the day, if you can say I did everything I possibly could for my child, than good for you. If you look back and feel that if you just could have done it different and been there more, well then I guess you just have to live with that.
July 6, 200719 yr I only take credit for the good things my kids do. All blame goes to their mother. BTW, I'm probably going to need a place to sleep tonight...
