Buying American

Featured Replies

I buy from who ever has the best product at the best price. If American companies want people to buy American then they need to build better products at better prices.

I have zero problem shopping at Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart's biggest drawback is its customer base, which makes it nearly impossible to go into.

Most of New Balance's higher end shoes are made in the USA. Just fyi.

If American companies want me to buy their products, they need to start producing stuff that isn't complete garbage.

All of this thread reminds me of a old joke that I heard some time ago. Basically about the same subject - It has been said that Donald Trump offered to buy America but Japan wouldn't sell. :D

I will buy american made products whenever I can and that is getting harder and harder to do in this country.

I own a pair of NBs. Great gymmers

And my daughter bought a pair at Walmart on vacation in Tennessee.

Even some of the "Made in the USA" items were only assembled or partially manufactured in the USA. They're still getting lots of parts from overseas.

My 93 Ford Ranger was made in Canada. My buddies Harley Davidson's wheels are stamped on the inside: "Made in Australia". Carbs are Japanese.

My Honda Crv was assembled in Marysville OH. Go figure.

FWIW, don't assume any "American" product is made in the USA.

And if your going to live in this world today and buy american only,, say goodbye to electronics.

Has anyone ever went to a Walmart with the intentions of buying only American made products? I went Saturday to buy my son and some of his friends flashlights for a camp-out he was having and this was pretty hard to do. They had one brand of flashlight that was made in the USA and it was the cheapest looking one also. I hope they will last over night. Everything is made in China, no wonder their economy is booming.

Therein lies the problem, I believe. Not all American made products are inferior, but it's been burned (consciously or subconsciously) into many peoples' minds that it is truly the case.

In my temporary stint at the Ford Louisville Assembly Plant, it was brought to my attention for the first time just how much negative press the Courier Journal brought to the company. I can't help but notice it now. I've never driven a foreign vehicle, but I've rarely had any complaints about my Fords or the old Chevy Caprice, my first car.

How ironic is this thread to me????

I am in China on a 3 week business trip and have been shopping in where else.....

WAL-MART...:D :D :D

Wal-Marts are everywhere here too...

I refuse to shop at Wal-Mart, haven't been to one in over 3 years.

Is your issue that they drive out the local mom/pops?

Quality?

Union related?

I highly recommend the book "The World is Flat" to anyone interested in how , through technology, the world has changed. Its not simply cheap items that Wal-Mart stocks. Its pervasive in almost any industry. Who would have thought the when you take your taxes into your local accountant that he/she may be using technology to have that tax return prepared in India?

Great read.

Made in India and Malaysia here, all the Chinese are mad because they can't find anything made in China!!! :thumb: :thumb:

I am halfway through my trip, can't wait till the 16th to get home.

We might as well face the facts. There is not much left in the way of quality merchandise that is actually made in the United States. Most all of our clothing, electronics, appliances ---just about everything --- comes in from overseas.

We may as well face another fact. Wal-Mart is King in all regions, and in many areas of the country, everyone else has either sold out or shut down, making Wal-Mart the only reasonable option in many areas. I don't like the fact that Wal-Mart refuses to allow a Union, does not pay its people well, and hires lots of illegal immigrants. However, as long as they offer the best line of products for the lowest price, billions of us will keep shopping there.

Notwithstanding, they clearly offer the best line of merchandise at the best price, and no one is even close to challenging them. They dominate the retail world like Tiger Woods dominates the PGA Tour.
