What's the oldest of the bowl games? We played in the Recreation Bowl in the early '70s. I don't know how long that bowl game or any others have been going on.
Paul Hornung played in the 1952 Rec Bowl at Mt. Sterling. This year will be the 60th year for the Rec Bowl.
Bob Allen Pigskin Classic(Aug. 25th at Admiral Stadium, Danville):

5:30 Russell Co. vs. Mercer Co.

8:00 Madison Central vs. Danville

I can't wait...:ylsuper:

Half right.

They should have made in a triple header like some events are and then they would not have to match the local teams up against each other.

The other local teams shouldnt be in the PCB at all. Community Trust Bank and WYMT have forever cheapened this once great and proud bowl game by introduding this little league mentality(every kid gets a trophy). These schools get the proceeds from what the PCB produces anyway. I wish no disrespect to any of the teams Im about to mention but anytime you beat Phelps,Pike Central,Shelby Valley or East Ridge you shouldnt get a trophy at the end of the game. I dont know, maybe Im just "old school". LOL!!!!

I understand where you are coming from and feel the same way about the Cumberland Falls Pigskin Classic down here in Corbin. It used to be a big deal but now it has lost a lot of it's luster in the eyes of many. Don't get me wrong, it's still ran excellent and there are always at least one good game but it just doesn't have that big name draw anymore.

I remember one year, it featured Male vs Moeller when both were ranked in the USA Today top 10. Another year had Fern Creek vs. Riverside in TN. Corbin vs. Lex Cath, Corbin vs. Henry Clay, Corbin vs. Bryan Station.

Corbin has Dunbar in it this year and Middlesboro has Knox Central. All of the teams are good teams but other than the Corbin Dunbar game, doesn't the Middlesboro vs. Knox Central game jump out and make ya say "Oooooooh"? Me neither.

Cumberland Valley Bowl

August 24 @ South Laurel High School

North Laurel vs Covington Holy Cross 5:30

South Laurel vs Valley 8:00

I understand what you're saying about bringing traditional powerhouse teams with statewide name recognition, but I'm willing to bet that the KC/Middlesboro game is the one that brings in the money this year. Although located only 20 miles apart, these two have not played each other in years and both have huge followings locally.

Sorghum Bowl

September 28th @Morgan County

If I'm not mistaken, hasn't the Sorghum Bowl been around for a long time? Seems like I remember seeing that name for many years!

I hate all these bowls, it has cheapened the meaning of playing in a bowl for me. I recall when there was only the Rec Bowl, to get the honor of playing in it was huge. Now every team in the state has a bowl game and heck alot of teams have several. I just read Rockcastle has 2 of its own and is playing in 3, geez! At this rate the Rocks trophy case may get full but does it really mean much to anybody or the kids. I long for the days of a few bowl games when the invite meant somthing. Next thing you know Springfield will have the Bart Simpson Bowl.

Rock is traditionally invited to play in 2-3 bowl games a year, that isn't cheapening the meaning, it is more of an honor to want teams to come into their house and play them. Just as recently as last year has Rock hosted 2 bowl games because of another proud local sponsor throughout the community. Rock has been hosting their own bowl game for 18 years now, that isn't like it just started and they have traditionally played all over the state annually in more than 2 bowl games, it is a far better experience than to not.

Does anyone know the name of Powell Co. Bowl Game?

Whitaker Bank Hall of Fame Bowl I believe.
