  1. Some people should look at the film. When a player leads with and hits with the helmet, my friends, that is "spearing". And yes, overall, the game was well officiated, but that non-call stands out to many. Film doesn't lie.
  2. I believe in the NLHS coaching staff. I do think they planned much of their offense to be a mixed-bag of various run/pass plays. This apparently included a heavy utilization of Cameron Cornett. He and Adrian Wardrup seemed to mentally connect last season or some exciting and even surprising completions and TDs. Cornett had the ability to add to 3rd down conversions by both running parfect patterns and even coming back to the ball when necessary. He put his body on the line, seemingly without fear, and caught and hung-on to the ball. North has other receivers, talented receivers, who, when things begin to click will make some amazing plays. The boys should not get discouraged. They will, I believe,"keep up their chins" and produce. This will help the running game waiting in the wings to explode onto the scene, and allow the deense to get some much needed rest beetween possessions. I have been around a great many of North's teams in the past, but I must say I have never seen players who love the game and actually play hard for each other any more than this group of kids do. They want great things for each other and for the team. As for Cornett, he will be playing somewhere for a college who recognizes those hands and that ability to make plays work and be a team player. He is still a North Laurel Jag, to the bone, and I am sure he will shortly be back on the sideline encouraging his teamates to go for it. Let's not count the Jags chances, to make the playoffs this year, dead in the water just yet. Last time I counted, each team puts 11 players on the field of honor. North has 11honorable and dedicated 11, no matter what the individual line-ups during any game.
  3. "...probably one of the best called games I've seen in awhile." You must be kidding. What a great call when Cornett got speared by the Letcher player's helmet. Wait, I am wrong, there WAS NO CALL! But hey, put him in hospital with a punctured lung, broken ribs, and partially collapsed lung. He's still there too. But, what a "best called game".
  4. I do think some people ought to back off the officials and pay attention to the coaching and play execution. Someone doesn't know what they are talking about. And just talking makes one appear less than knowledgeable or intelligent enough to be taken seriously. This service is not a place to gring personal axes with. I a certain individual has a problem with an oficial who has called the biggest game in the state before, and has a marvelous track record, then perhaps that person should take it up with that official, rather than attack from the back, under a nickname, making statements that are not provable nor have any validity whatsoever. Food or thought!
  5. 1. What are the chances for both teams this coming Friday night? 2. Who are the players to watch, both offexive and defensive, for big plays? 3. What does each team need to pay attention to for success (both execution-wise and avoidance)? 4. Which team do you think will earn a victory when the horn sounds, and by what score?
  6. Three of the four officials which called the game Friday night are from Laurel County, and one from Whitley County. Now can there be any doubt as to the validity or honesty of the officiating? I think not. Those persons who might think calling a HS game is easy, well, let them go through the rigors of becoming qualified and call a few; then let's beat-up on the officials. I'm not saying all calls are 100% perfect. But as soon as I become 100% perfect, then I am going to really lay it on the officials. Calls during any game usually balance out as good calls v questionable calls. Let's keep the focus on the game play and execution, and be constructive; if nothing else, to set an example for the youngsters playing the game.
  7. Congratulations to the Whitley County Colonels; what a fine historic program they maintain. Well gang, someone has to win, and someone has to lose. I have been and remain resolute that the North Laurel Jaguars are going to make it into the playoffs, and will even go deeper than expected at that level of play competition. I also expect the Jags to put the whole package together on the 21st, as they travel to Letcher County and face the Cougars on their home turf. The way I view it at this point, North has seen the possibilities, sized-up their options for both "O" and "D", allowed new and untested varsity players to have ownership in the team, find, evaluate, and correct any and all areas of execution difficulty perceived over the last four games, and are starting to show a mixed-bag of plays which has been, and will remain, unredictable to the opposition (truly different from last season). I am so thrilled with the boys of North Laurel. Athletes such as Tyler Pennington - what an amazingly talented and committed player. Others such as Ryan Brandengurg who is perhaps in on every pay, Shawn Nelson, Stephen White, Joey Rotunde, Adrian Wardrup, Denver Tyree, Aaron Fugate, Jacob Osborne - so many awesome young men, it is too difficult to name them all and specify their valued contribution to this team. Personally, I would love to see White carry the ball more, Smith and Lewis spot-played more often, and mix-up the backfield with Pennington, Jones, Wardrup, Brandenburg, etc., and execute some options available to confuse and surprise the opponent's "D". I do believe the coaching staff at North know their players, and plan what is best for positive yardage. I have total confidence in their decisions, because they are the ones on the sideline and want the victory so much for their kids. I do believe, each of these team brothers play hard and smart for each other. The Jags desire to play, and win, reminds me of the old saying: "A quitter never wins, and a winner never quits". Time to win!
  8. Well, you guys aren't giving North Laurel's boys much credit for their tenacity and heart as a group of young men. They play their hearts-out, and will continue to do so. At present, they are struggling to find their nitch on the field; and they will soon. You must admit, or I think you would, that North has made some good, even great, plays during series of games. Yes, they perhaps are the underdogs, but remember, when your hungry, that is when you are at your most dangerous, and your opponest is at its most vulnerable. Let's not count North out just yet; still a great deal of football to be played.
  9. Hey fellows, come on now. I respect all of your opinions entered on this site. I really enjoy hearing your perspectives, both pre and post-game. All of you discussing this present topic want the same thing in-the-end; North Laurel victories each and every time they take the field, no matter who the opponent. I will also give y'all something else - you guys do feel for this team, and feel deeply. Let's stay united behind these Jags and love and support them and the Ws will come soon. There are so many positives for North which came in the game last night - not the least of these was Time-of-Possession. They did a fine job keeping the score close and low for most of the game. Let's remember, South played a terrific game (D & O) and they had no mercy to give, whether flagged or not.No one play, or player, does a teamn, unless the team looses heart; these boys did not and played hard right up until the end. Congrat's fellows for all the support and deep-felt advise offered on this site. Let's all continue to support and advance those Jags; and this is one fan that will continue to read and enjoy, and learn, from your comments.
  10. It will be a battle on the 31st. Right now, it's anyone's game to win, or lose. South has a slight mental edge due to their win last night, and due to the graduation of some very talented and athletic Sons of North. Also, remember, the kid who caught two of Wardrup's TD passes last year against South is out with a broken had from camp; so, another edge to South. However, NL has some really talented and aggressive players, as was seen last night in so many downs against Covington Holy Cross. They can run the ball well and Brandenburg always gets positive yardage almost every carry. Look for Tyree to come on strong on the O side of the ball. Keep an eye out for a couple hard-playing Freshmen making a larger appearance Friday too. On D, Nelson, Brandenburg, and company will get after whoevere has the pigskin in their hands. Will White be back in action by Friday? Anyone have info on him? Bowling knows him well also; they, along with Nelson, met up-close and personal a few times last match-up. Covreage against the passing of South is more than likely the key. If Pennington and his pals can stop the pass, then we might just see a low-scoring game, and then it's anybody's game - Which team wants it the most? Remember, it's a game of will, of downs, of time-of-possession based on conversions. Bowling will surely be throwing many passes; some may backfire. Let's hide and watch, and see the fireworks!
  11. Although Brandenburg did have a great game on both sides of the ball Wardrup did a very good job of keeping the offense moving up and down the field doing with what he was given. I dont believe the play calling for North Laurel was questionable either, they are a running team and the Jags top reciever is out right now due to injury fow a few more games. I was very impressed with Tyler Pennington last night making people miss in the return game and making solid tackles when they needed to be made. On the other side of the ball, CHC did a very good job on both sides and it seems to me that they will have a strong season. Good luck to both teams in the future!:thumb:
  12. Players such as Maggard are extremely dificult to replace; if a Maggard can ever be replaced Guess what I am asking is who will take up the standard and "stand in the gap". Who has the potential to pick-up their game and play hard-nosed football, without regard to timidity or personal interests?
