You don't know if a teacher would do that or not but drug testing them to make sure they don't do that kind of stuff could help, don't yoiu think? No. The purpose of drug testing in employment is to give some assurance that employees in positions of risk are not habitual users of narcotics that can lead to serious or fatal accidents.

June 24, 200719 yr If a "surprise raid" is bringing in the drug sniffing dogs, I think that everyone at the school is subject to this because the dogs don't know the difference between student owned cars, bags, etc. and teacher owned cars, bags, etc.

June 24, 200719 yr Security guards, teachers (including vocational), students, secretary, cook, principal, guidance counslor, etc. EVERYBODY that has a job in the school should be tested for drugs. You can holler "violation of privacy" or "I'm a teacher. You know I wouldn't do drugs" or & whatever you want but if your going to test the students, you have to test EVERYBODY else.
June 25, 200719 yr The only school employees that should be subject to drug testing are those who's jobs endanger themselves or others. I'm thinking of bus drivers, some vocational teachers, practical lab teachers. Why not test everyone?

June 25, 200719 yr I am an Engineer for a Major electronics company. I get drug tested at random. I think that every employee should, Teachers, Judges, Policemen...everyone in the workforce!!!!! Sorry if that is offensive to anyone.

Its ok to do drugs unless you play a sport or are in the band . At my high school, they did test all students that particpated in extracurricular activites but they also had RANDOM drug testing, which means they can test students that do not participate in those activites. They also tested all driving students which was a very smart thing to do.
June 25, 200719 yr I am a teacher and I would not care to be tested randomly. I am not offended by the idea and think it would ease the minds of administrators, parents, and the public. When students are your responsibility then you must be responsible.
June 25, 200719 yr Well, after the bus crash in Cincinnati (driver positive for multiple drugs), I would have to say random drug testing should be done. There is no harm in it. My place of employment (hospital) has the right to do random tests, though I have never seen it done. I think any employer should have that right. I can think of few jobs that being high doesnt put the person, or worse, co-workers or those they are supposed to be looking out for, at risk for harm. In my husbands company, if an employee gets hurt, they immediately have to take a drug test to see if that contributed to the injury. It has saved the company money on workmans comp. Here is my question. Suppose someone smokes pot on a regular basis..... lets say weekends only. I know for a fact that it can take up to a month for pot to clear from your urine. Pot is stored in the fat of regular users and can take weeks to clear. If a teacher is not high, but has smoked in the last week or so, and tests positive, should he/she be fired?
June 25, 200719 yr I'm a teacher and I voted in favor of drug testing for teachers last year. They've never tested us (to my knowledge), but I think they should. What would it hurt? If you haven't done anything wrong, all you're doing is leaking into a cup. . Would you let them search your car? Would you let them search your home? Would you let them call friends and family to check on you?
