Griffey Wants Out?

Featured Replies

In 2008 Hatteberg or Connine neither one will be back I will be surprised if they are not traded before the dead line.

I disagree. Their production combines is very good and very cheap. Now in 09' I have to think they are gone, but I'm still not sure Votto will be at the 1B.

Sean Marshall for Junior is a sweet, sweet deal IMO...

:thumb: Me 2, I would love it...

Hatteberg to the Yankees is the rumor right now. This would make sense since Cashman/Steinbrenner seem intent on collecting as many former Red Sox as possible.

Not as likely imo as it once was but I still would not rule out Griffey to the Yankees.

That has never been likely.....He has said for as long as I can remember that he would never go to the Yankees, due to how poorly they treated his father.

I doubt it ever happens....If Junior wanted to play for a bad team he would just stay in Cincinnati....

Junior is rumored to have OKed a deal to the Cubs because his fondness of Piniella. I also doubt it happens but I would take Junior for Marshall in a second...

That flies in the face of conventional wisdom that he would be traded to a team looking to win the World Series.:p

I agree that would be a great deal for the Reds.

I'd say Jr. probably said he'd like to play for Piniella or something to that effect, and thus the he "approved" the deal talk started.

I still say if he leaves Cincy, it's for Boston or Atlanta....Both have young arms that the Reds could get in return.

Alan Cutler has been all over the Cincy radio stations this week saying trade both and use the extra money to bring in major starting pitcher.

But here is the problem with that mindset. UNLESS you are willing to overpay for the starting pitching, you are going to be competing against other teams that are offering similar pay packages.

And then that starting pitcher looks at a Cubs lineup and sees where runs can be produced. He looks at a Cardinal lineup and sees where runs can be produced.

He looks at the REds lineup without Dunn and Jr and says he has to have an ERA of 1 if he is going to consistently win ballgames with the Reds.

How many are going to choose the Reds?

Why do I get the feeling Jr and Dunn are like GT and HSSB? Sitting back trying to make up trade rumors for them and see how far they get in the media.:p;) :sssh:

I am still waiting for the Dunn-Willis trade from last summer.:D

I would have thought that Griffey would want to go back to the AL so he could do a stint as DH.

Cutler is an idiot...

He has said over and over he has zero desire to be a DH...

With Coco Crisp's resurgance at the plate and gold glove caliber defense in center field and question's about Schilling's shoulder I doubt you'll get the Red Sox to part with Lester or Gabbard for Jr. He really has no place to play in their lineup, sure he's a bit of an upgrade over Crisp or Drew on offense to this point but he's a definate downgrade on defense and since they're 21 games over .500 I don't see them making a move for a bat.
