think Midland Indians play in a wood bat world series at the end of the year...That could be a reason why they were using the wood the other night.

The Kentucky Colonels first game in Memphis on Thursday vs, Prospects-Reed, was rained out in the second inning. Other than it being rained out, I have no other details. This game will be replayed at 9pm Friday. The Colonels next play Nebraska at 4:30 per the schedule that I have....

The Kentucky Colonels beat the Nebraska Sluggers behind the pitching of Jim Ryan this afternoon by a score of 7-1. I was told that Cody Elliott, Nick Ryan, Craig Shanks and Ben Kuebbing all had the big bats today. Colonels scored 4 runs in the 5th and three more in the top of the 7th to win.

 

The rain out game will be played later tonight. The Colonels were losing in that game 1-0 with Matt Nichols on the mound. Wasn't told anything else about the game.

In the Colonels vs. Prospects-Reed game that was rained out on Thursday and replayed Firday night (July 13th), the Colonels found themselves on the losing end of the scoreboard by a score of 9-1. Not quite sure what happened, but the score sounds ugly.

 

In the 9am (cdt) game this morning (July 14th) the Colonels are losing to the Illinois Magic, by a score of 5-4 after six complete innings. The Colonels have a time at bat left with Jim Ryan, Cody Elliott, and Ben Kuebbing on deck and needing 1 run to tie and two to win.... Brad Krohman started with Matt Nichols coming in to relieve.

The Colonles scored 2 in the first without the benefit of a hit, then scored another 2 in the second. That all for the time being from Memphis.....

The Kentucky Colonles play today in Lexington at Applebees Park against the Kentucky Baseball Academy today (July 17) at 3:00pm. Won't be able to attend the game, as that darn job of mine keeps getting in the way......

 

After today's game in Lexington the Colonels leave immediately for Nashville to play in the Sandlott World Series.

Thursday July 19 first game of the day found the Colonels playing and defeating the Columbus Cobras by a score of 5-0 behind a great performance by Brad Krohman. Brad was in complete control all day and never did the Cobras have a runner reach third all day. In fact the most batters that Krohman faced in any one inning was 5 and that was only due to an error. Brad had the help of some fine "D" behind him today except for the one play. Maile threw out two trying to steal, and Elliott threw out a runner trying to advance from 1st to 3rd on a base hit.

The Colonels have a huge following. By far the largest crowd of fans that are following a team that I saw today, and they are loud....

 

If the Colonels continue to play as they did today, they will make some noise in this tournament, they very well both with the bats and with the glove.....

The second game of the day July 19th found the Colonels falling off the side of the mountain. It was like watching two different teams. This morning a team who could beat anyone, to this afternoon a team who I don't think could have beat my old "C" knothole team. No need to post the stats in this one as the Colonels lost by a score of 8-0

Winning this afternoon game didn't hurt the Colonels as the Columbus Cobras loss to the Colonels this morning meant the Colonels were in no matter what they did in this game.....

 

Many of the players and families went out to dinner at Corky's. It was a fun evening, and the food as well as the company was outstanding....

The first game of Friday July 20th found the Colonels playing for the honor of the good old USA as Kentucky boy's took on the Canadian Thunderbirds, and the players seemed to understand that they were playing for not only themselves but for the Country today. Colonels won this in five innings by a score of 10-2.

 

Jim Ryan took the mound today, and he showed by NKU signed him early in the season. Jim was masterful in going the distance and allowing one one earned run, and the "D" came up big again making only one error.

Great game by Rick Parrott not only at the plate where he went 3-3 but also with his glove. On one play, he went far to his right scooped up the grounder and threw out the runner at first by a hair. Great play indeed.

 

This game was made even nicer as they had an announcer who seemed to care about how he sounded and did the game with some attention to the game. Nice job.....young man......

The second game of the day Friday July 20th found the Colonels playing a familiar opponent the Cincinnati Flames, and the Colonels threw young Paul Uhl. Paul did a great job today and kept the Colonels in it during his time on the mound. Paul was followed by Cody Elloitt and then Craig Shanks.

Best game of the many that I saw this week. Colonels took control by a score of 4-0 by scoring 2 in the first and 2 in the second. The Flames scored 1 in the fourth and 1 in the fifth, but the Colonles matched that run in their fourth making the score 5-1 after 5 complete. In the top of the sixth the Flames went up by 1 (6-5), by scoring 4 runs three of them on a 375 HR. However the Colonels bounced right back by scoring a run of there own to knot the game at 6-6 after six complete. The Flames came back and scored two to take the lead again this time by 2 (8-6) but the Colonels came back strong with Bleser, Parrott, getting hits and Elloitt knocking in the winning run. In that same inning, Isler took one for the team (hbp), N. Ryan walked and Tyler Holocher hit a high hopper (and I mean high) that the 3rd baseman couldn't handle. It was great watching this team come back twice to get the win and move on to the final 12 in the Sandlott WS.

 

Strange play indeed:

Top of the sixth, Flames get their first runner on by a HBP, next batter up gets a single, runners now on first and third and no one out. Now the strange play..... Batter hits the first pitch to the Colonels right fielder (Gilcrest) who catches the ball (1 out) then throws home to Maile at the plate. Runner makes a great slide and Maile tries to tag runner and it looks like the runner is out (2 outs). Maile see's the runner who had tagged up at first on the throw home and guns him down for what many thought was a triple play (3 outs), however those of us who were seating near the plate never saw the home plate umpire call either safe or out, and he did so correctly because we knew the runner missed home because Maile had the plate blocked. When Maile threw down to second base the runner just reached around and tagged home then the umpire signaled safe. For those who might think Maile should have tried to re tag the runner at the plate the runner was nearer the plate and Maile would have never beat the runner reaching for the plate. It was a strang/great play by all especially the man in Blue behind the plate..... Good job Blue.....

 

Around 40/50 parents, family friends and players went to dinner at the Plantation Steaks House for dinner Friday night. What a great evening of fellowship, laughs, and fun. Thanks for letting Theoldguy and his daughter be part of it....
