Kentucky Colonels

Featured Replies

The Kentucky Colonels playing in the SWOL Tourney today beat the Cincinnati Falcons in five innings by a score of 10-2 (8 run rule). Ryan (Cov Holy Cross) started and pitched a complete game going the entire five innings. He threw 78 pitches and gave up 7 hits and 2 runs both earned with 2 K's and only 1 walk.

Hits and runs scored for the Colonles today were:

Elliott (Beechwood) 2-3 (2) doubles scored a run

Reed (Boone Co.) 1-3 double scored a run

Maile (CovCath) 1-3 triple scored a run

Kuebbing (St. Henry) 2-3 scored 2 runs

Bleser (CovCath) 1-1 double SF scored a run

Uhl (Cin McNicholas) 1-1

Nutini (CovCath) 2-3 double scored a run SB

Gilcrest (St. Henry) 1-2 scored a run

Isler (CovCath) 2-2 scored a run

Krohman (Boone Co.) 2-2 double scored a run

Ben Kuebbing (St Henry) made a real nice catch in the top of the fifth for the first out, then with a runner on second, he threw a one hop strike to Maile (CovCath) to nail a runner at the plate on a base hit. Real nice catch, throw, and tag......WOW.....

Side note: This was the fifth game in a row that the Kentucky Colonels haven't played a regulation game. The last four were extra innings games of 12-8-9-8 and this one was a five innings eight run rule game.....Kind of strange to play so many games in a row and none being a regulation seven inning game...

Colonels play Sunday at 2:30 at the Lincoln Lee Complex...

Who is on the hill tomorrow?

Who is on the hill tomorrow?

Nichols, Gillchrist, and Mutsch will be on the mound tomorrow. I'm sure at least one more will pitch but I am uncertain as to whom.

The Kentucky Colonels first game today was against the Kentucky Royals, and for many of the Colonels/Royals players/fans it was bitter sweet, as they were playing against close friend and teammates.

The Colonels won this game by a score of 11-8 and earned the right to go up against the Kentucky Kings to play for the tournament championship.

Nichols (Dixie) started and went five innings and got the win. Nichols threw 78 pitches, gave up 6 hits, 5 runs all earned, walked 2 and struck out 2 in getting the win. Mutsch (Bishop Brossart) came in to pitch the rest of the game. He threw 41 pitches, gave up 5 hits, 3 runs all earned, walked no one, and struck out 2.

Hitting for the Colonels were:

Elliott (Beechwood) 1-2, walk, 2 runs scored and a SB

Holochor (CovCath) 1-1

Shanks (St. Henry) 1-3, 1 run scored

Maile (CovCath) 3-3, double, 3 runs scored, 2 rbis, and a SB

Bleser (CovCath) 2-3, double, HR (345) 1 run scored, 3 rbis

Kuebbing (St. Henry) 1-2, walk, 1 run scored, 1 rbi

Reed (Boone Co) 1-3

Nichols (Dixie) 1-3, 1 rbi

Nutini (CovCath) 2-3, 1 run scored

Krohman (Boone Co) 2-3, 2 doubles, 2 runs scored

Ryan (St. Henry) 1-3, double, 1 rbi

Side notes: It was nice to see Kyle Houlehan of the Royals finally get to pitch in a game this season. Kyle has had arm trouble that prevented him from pitching a single game this year for CovCath, but today he was finally cleared to pitch. Kyle threw one inning and struck out one but did give up a couple of hits and 2 runs one of which was unearned. Glad to see you pitch Kyle keep your head up...

Beautiful bright and sunny day for baseball, and a good crowd of fans out to see some quality baseball teams.

The Colonels lost the championship game by the the 8 run rule for the tourney but I cannot remember the final tally. It was a sloppy game by both teams for the most part.

Congrats to the Kentucky Kings who beat the Kentucky Colonels (couldn't we all have saved some gas/money and just played this game in Kentucky:D ) by a score of 13-5 in a 6 inning (8 run rule game).

In the SWOL Championship game the colonels started strong by scoring 3 runs in the first inning to take the lead but it was short lived as Gilcrest (St. Henry) just couldn't find the strike zone and found himself behind to almost every Kings batter, and the Kings hitters made him pay for it by scoring 5 runs in the first. It seemed that after that first inning the Kings owned the Colonels pitchers and it was a long afternoon for the Colonels...

Far to late to look throughly through my score book tonight...

It certainly would have been nice to have this game played at St. Henry. All of that up and back travel was starting to wear me out, not to mention numerous other fans/parents.

Pitchers for the Colonels were:

Gilcrest, Shanks, and Krohman gave up a total of 13 runs, on 13 hits with 1 walk, 1 hbp, and 1 strikeout

Hitting for the Colonels were:

Elliott 1-2, 1 walk and 2 sb's

Kuebbing 1-3 1 run scored, and 1 sb

Reed 1-2, 1 walk

Holochor 1 walk

Maile 1-3, 1 run scored, got on base by an error and 1 rbi

Nutini 0-1, hbp, 1 sb, 1 run scored

Nichols 1-1, 1 run scored, 1 sb

Bleser 1-2, 1 rbi

Hoskins 0-1, got on base by an error, 1 run scored

Ryan 0-0 1 SF, 1 rbi

Isler 1-2, 1 walk

Side notes:

Elloitt put on a show of speed twice, as both times he was picked off first, and both times he beat the throw to second.

The outfielders were getting killed all weekend by the concrete like field that they were playing on. Ball were taking strange bounces all weekend long, and many of an outfielder had to be really careful as when charging a ground ball, not to take that ball to the face.

The game earlier in the week between the Kings and Colonels which the Kings won at Thomas More, was I think both teams can agree, was a much better played game...

Both team by coming in first and second, qualified to play in a tournament in Nashville later in the season, and both team will be having their entry fees paid by the tournament, or so I was told. If someone more familiar with the process could fill me in how this works, I would appreciate it.

Next game for the Colonels will be Tuesday at St. Henry @ 6:30pm vs. the Dayton Cardinals.....

Have the Kings lost yet???

Have the Kings lost yet???

No, they are 11-0. Great start for the Kings!

No, they are 11-0. Great start for the Kings!

They have some top notch pitching, Pat Allen, Trey Lenare, Mike Schum,

T C Wetherington, Matt Abeling ect, and the one time I saw them play they crushed the ball thru the entire lineup. Bobby Mullins knows how to find the tallent.

After watching 5 to 6 games this weekend at this tournament (even though it is only one tournament) it was plain to see that the NKY teams were by far the best teams. This weekend it was the Kings (who played solid all weekend- good looking team), Colonels (at times looked unbeatable), and Royals (real close- lost to Kings 8-7 and Colonels 11-8)

At times yesterday it looked like they were playing in a parking lot. Any ball hit hard in the infield was a hit and anything hit solid in the outfield was an adventure! Most hard singles turned into doubles because the outfielders had to play so deep to keep everything in front of them.

Forgot Ricky Hartkins and Arin Busch....pretty good on the hill as well.

Can anybody post a roster and where they went to school????
