Is Walt allowed to coach during the dead period?

 

Don't really know the answer to this question, but I would assume that since this isn't his HS team, and none of the younger players for the Colonels are still St. Henry students, I wouldn't think he isn't breaking any dead period rules.

 

The game today at 2pm was canceled due to rain....

 

Next game is this Tuesday June 26 vs. The Panel Barn @ The Panel Barn starting time is 6:30pm.

Colonels notes:

 

Cody Elliotts (390) foot HR indeed got the attention of the East Cobb Yankees coach, and it brought the Colonels to within 4 runs to the Yankees at the time. It indeed was a blast, and if this game were being played at any NKy high school field it would have been a no doubter.

 

Brad Krohman was a life saver for the Colonels today, in keeping the Yankees in check two and 2/3 innings. He did a outstanding job against a tough team that could hit and hit the ball hard.

Since all the St. Henry players that are on the team have all graduated, they are no longer affiliated with the school and Walt is able to coach them and the rest of the players without any reprecussions.

Stats for the second game Saturday vs. The Memphis Tigers.

 

Brandon Nutini 94 pitches, 2 walks, 1 strike out, 9 hits, 5 runs, and all the runs were earned. Nutini pitched a complete 6 inning game.

Ben Kuebbing hit the ball hard all weekend long and got nothing for his efforts as every shot, was right at someone.

 

As I wrote earlier, play small ball and you win this game......but....

Team on a Mission

The Colonels played The Panel Barn today and won in a lightning shorten game by a score of 9-4. The game was halted/called in the top of the seventh with the Colonels just scoring three runs and Bleser on first base.

 

The Colonels pitched everybody but the kitchen sink today, and I am thinking that the kitchen sink would have thrown the seventh, if the lightening hadn't halted play.

 

Clint Hoskins started and got the "W". Other than the first pitch which the Panel Barn batter hit over the very short left field fence for a HR, Clint cruised. Hoskin pitched 2 innings, threw only 23 pitches, walked 1, gave up 1 hit, and only allowed that 1 run, which was earned.

 

Zach Isler came into pitch the third inning and should have gotten out of the inning without giving up a run, but some shoddy play by the Colonles fielders allowed 2 runs to score. Isler pitched 1 inning, walked 1, hit 1 batter, struck out 1, and gave up only 1 hit. Isler gave up two runs, on 30 pitches, but neither of the runs were earned.

 

Next up was Craig Shanks who also only pitched only 1 inning. Craig threw only 9 pitches, while giving up 2 hits but no runner got past 2nd base for a rather quick in and out on the mound.

 

Uhl came in next and he also pitched only 1 inning. Paul threw 13 pitches, hit 1 batter, and that batter would have been out if the man in blue behind the plate had asked the man in blue at first base, if the batter had swung at the pitch (umpire told us if asked he would have been out). Paul proceed to try to pick the batter off first but made a bad throw and the runner went to second. Then after a passed ball, and then a wild pitch the Panel Barn scored a run without benefit of a hit. Paul to his credit struck out the side and actually did strike out 4 batters that inning.

 

The last pitcher was Adam Cilcrest who closed out the sixth inning. Adam threw only 5 pitches gave up no runs, or hits and struck out one.

Colonels notes:

 

Both Cody Elliott and Rick Parrott hit triples today. Elliotts was indeed a shot on the second pitch of the day. Man it is fun watching those two motor around the bases..

 

Luke Maile had only two pitches to hit today, as the Panel Barn didn't give hit much to hit. In his first at bat, it was 3-0 before the pitcher threw a strike and then threw a ball. In his second at bat they threw the young Colonel four straight balls to again walk him. Then his next at bat after throwing three balls, they threw one he could hit and he sent it to the deepest part of Center Field where the sign read 406 and the Center Fielder needed all of that 406 feet to catch it with the fence hitting his back for the long out. The man in blue after the inning was over, was totally impressed when told that Maile was only going to be a junior next year, and said "that kid needs to be hitting with a wooden bat, as he will be playing at the next level one day".

 

I want to give a big standing ovation to Jim Ryan for an outstanding catch in the fourth inning to take away a sure double or triple. Great catch indeed and NKU is getting a great ball player.

 

The game scheduled tomorrow Wednesday June 27 has been canceled by Comair.

Starting this Thursday the Kentucky Colonels, Kentucky Royals, Kentucky Baseball Club and Kentucky Kings all will be playing in the Indiana Bulls Baseball Tournament better know as the

Colonels vs. Lakeside Cardinal Red

The Colonels today get some great pitching and win two very close ball games.

 

In the first game, the Colonels played the Rawling's Prospects and won 2-1. Matt Nichols goes the distance for the Colonels and looked almost unhittable.

 

In the second game, the Colonels played ??? Statesman (not sure to where they are from) and won 2-1. Paul Uhl (McNicholas, OH) goes the distance for the Colonels here as well.

Cody Elliot today absolutely lit up the opposition. I think he had at least 2+ hits in both ball games, including a triple in both.

 

Maile went 1-3 with an RBI and 0-1 with an sacrifice fly and a HBP in both games today.

In the first game on Saturday, the Kentucky Colonels defeated the Louisiana Legends by a score of 3-2. The winning pitcher for the Colonles was Brad Krohman who went the distance. The Colonels scored all three runs in the top of the seventh inning to win this game with some timely hitting. Exciting, and fun to watch game...

87 pitches, 1 walk, 7 strike outs, 5 hits, and 2 runs given up, both earned

The Colonels were extremely sloppy on the bases in this game. Two players got picked off first base in this game sloppy, sloppy, sloppy and it constantly took the Colonels out of having a big inning.

 

The top of the seventh was as exciting of a game as I have seen this summer. Really think the Legends coach took out his fine left hander

too early and not too sure if he doesn't, the Colonels win this game.

Game two Saturday, found the Colonels playing immediately again after game one and losing to the Kentucky Baseball Club, by a score of 4-1. Starting and losing pitcher for the Colonels was Jim Ryan, who deserved a better fate today against a good team. The KBC did something today that I haven't seen a summer club do all summer, and that is to play to win a game. Now what do I mean? They played small ball throughout the entire game. As I posted prior, while I don't love small ball, it has a time and place, but not in summer ball, at least IMO....

1 inning, 19 pitches, 2 walks, 1 hbp, 0 hits, 0 runs and a huge tip of the cap to Hoskins.. I will explain in the Colonles notes.

Again in this game some very, very sloppy play on the basepaths with one runner getting picked off first by the catcher, and another getting (what I call) back doored by the catcher (more on this later).

 

To say that Coach Terrell was in a not too happy mood after this game, would be an understatement. He sent the entire team to the outfield and yelled to the parents, "that it would be awhile before the team would be leaving," and had the entire team running from foul pole, to foul pole in the outfield, for quite a while. After running for what seem to be for a least fifteen/twenty minutes, he then had a team meeting that I have no idea how long it lasted, as I got a phone call asking me to return home as soon as possible.

 

Okay, to let you know about the play that I am tipping my hat to Hoskins for, and that each and every player on the Colonels team needs to personally thank him for. To me, it's just old fashion baseball the way I was raised to play, and in talking to many of the Colonles fans in the stands, they were too..

 

In the top of the seventh, a Colonel batter got a base hit to center field, but in taking a big turn around first base, he didn't see the catcher back door him. With taking the big turn around first base, and thinking that with the first baseman standing besides him, I guess he felt safe, but the catcher is at first and the CF throws back to him, and nails the Colonel runner out at first. Big smart play by the catcher, and if it ends that way, no harm, no foul, but the KBC catcher just can't be happy at making the play, but points big time at the Colonel runner laying on the ground after just being called out. Now that is when I knew that the KBC catcher was in trouble, as he was the first batter up in the next inning, and I told another fan, that I wouldn't want to be him at the plate. Well to Hoskins credit, with the KBC catcher up, the first pitch sails right over the his head, and the umpire to his credit, points at Hoskins, and warns him, and points to the KBC bench and warns them. Personally at the next level or if KBC was playing a different team, that pitch that sailed over the KBC batter's head, that really wasn't that close to hitting hitting him, would have hit him squarely in his side. Making a big play in a game, offers no excuse for showing up another player. Just makes me wonder, if this young man plays for Lexington Dunbar? Nothing futher comes on in this game and both teams shake hands afterwards.....

 

BTW, Hello to the young lady who was sitting in the stands today working on cross word puzzles.... She is a very pretty, and nice young lady....and cool too. Happy now!!!! :lol: :lol: :thumb:

The Colonels won the game over the Cardinals 5-3. Despite the win, the Colonels made it a close game by giving them 3 runs, all of which were unearned.

 

Craig Shanks was the starting pitcher and went 5 strong innings giving up 3 runs, 0 ER. Cody Elliot came in to relieve and went the last two innings. Apparently he hit 91 MPH on the gun which is some heat:flame:

 

Craig Shanks had a crucial 2-run double with 2 outs in the fourth to put them up for good. I would say who else produced for the Colonels but it has been a long trip home and my memory is a little foggy at the moment!
